Going today 1/4 mile drag
Going today 1/4 mile drag
Well if the weather stays dry I will probably be going to the track. I am bringing my bro with me so he can video tape it
. wunderground says 20% chance but its currently raining were I live and up in northern Florida hope 70 miles north of me stays dry.
My car is a 5AT with just a Z-Tube rest is stock
My goal is 14.8.
Any Tips?
Thanks

depending on the weather conditions, i would guess high 14s/low 15s becuase it will probably be warm and humid. Just make sure you run with VDC off, use manual mode, get your 60's down below 2.2. If you want, brake torque at the line. My PB is a 14.500@96MPH with a 2.15 60'. That was with a density altitude of -196 feet though!!

remove spare
lower rear tire pressure to between 25-28psi (play with different psi start with 28) leave the fronts alone and make sure they are stock pressure.
turn OFF VDC and avoid the water box if possible and do a light burnout to get any debris off your tires before staging.
begin brake torque after both staging lights are lit on both sides torque to 2k.
floor it on the 3rd set of staging lights releasing the brake 1/2 sec later.
if you have the stock rev limit shift between 6300-6400 and try to hold 3rd through the lights. DO NOT LET OFF BEFORE THE 1/4 MILE MARKER!! (before you run locate where the marker is on the track for reference) some tracks use cones in the middle or side to mark 1/8 and 1/4.
Last and not least watch other cars run before you run to locate where the turn-off is at the end of the track and which lane is the best (sticky) or not the best
Hope this helps this is what I do in my 5at. Good luck and post up your times.
Here is a vid of me running 13.8 it starts at 3:00 in the vid.

how can it be? Your just flooring it for a second or two to remove any debris off the tires from the staging lanes you see me do it before my 2nd run.
It's the same as flooring your car from a stop on the street and spinning the tires. Brake tq for a long period of time is bad because you are heating up the tranny fluid.

I just got back home. What a waste
20% chance to rain turned into 100% and I waited an hour as I was about to go in I saw clouds and did a U-turn and drove down a bit to see if it was just regular cloud cover or rain and yea it started raining so I just drove home. There were like 20 cars from what I was told,Ill come next week when its all dry. I asked for the track conditions and the lady at the front said, theirs people on it, and could not really tell me so what ever.
for TQ Braking- So just hit the gas lightly hit the brake pedal and then give it some more gas until back wheels spin more or less? I got to try it out. I saw your video the amount of time you did it for is enough? it seemed a bit short. I know your dont have to spin it endlessly like people do in manuals. but short period of time is ok cool.
Today when I got to the track I had 80 miles to empty just from doing 28 on the highway so it was preatty low, I hope I can get it that low again next week. I drove all the way back to my area before getting gas lol its not a good feeling when the computer screen tells you 0 lol. I still had 2 gallons left though.
so as soon as the light before the green go on floor it and then release? Ill have to try that out when I get to the track next week.
In manumatic Mode I can get all the way to redline if not just a little over.
For my first run I was going to do everything stock, then after that remove all the other headrests, floor mats, spare tire, and everything that in the glove/center box into a bag so I am as light as I can be simply. Can I take out the rear seats :O?
Thanks for your help
I hope it will be nice and dry next week.

I hope it will be nice and dry next week.Yes you can take out the rear seats and the front seats and the radio. Also might want to make sure your washer fluid is empty too.

I hope it will be nice and dry next week.Brake torquing can be used for an extra boost off the line if the car feels sluggish out of the hole. With practice and learning the track conditions, you will figure out how much you need to stall up the converter. Right after you line up and the staging lights come on is when you want to begin your brake torquing. Basically you hold the brake with left foot, while giving gas. The more gas, the higher the RPMs will stall up giving you a harder launch. When the lights drop release the brake and go. Obviously if you are running shotty tires and/or the track prep is bad, brake torquing will just hurt ET times more. Usually right after it rains the track prep is horrible, so its probably good you didnt go.
Launch is key to good ET times. Pay attention to your 60's. You do not want to spin, but at the same time you also dont want to bog your launch. In manual mode the engine will go all the way to redline and bounce the limiter, so you want to make sure you shift just before it hits since it will hurt ET times.

Yea, I know how to launch, I tried a launch from 2k in a deserted parking lot at night in the dry and I had pretty good traction I didn't spin or anything I just heard like 3 tire squeaks as I was getting off.
oh yea in the wet my tires are freaking horrid and dangerous, I wont even risk it which is why I went back home.
Thanks for all your help. I now just need to actually go and do it! hehe
