Is using auto or manual faster for an auto/manual g35

I have a 2005 Infiniti g35 Automatic 5 speed, but I also have the option for manual! When racing should I use the manual option of just keep it on automatic?

If I'm supposed to use manual, when should I shift my gears to maximize torque and horsepower?

If you are going to be racing at a race track, you would use manual mode because the automatic shifter could shift early or out of place in a turn throwing you sideways.

As for quarter mile, well that is pretty obvious.

Racing off the track is prohibited by forum rules and this is the response you will receive or your thread will be closed.

Always keep it in auto when on public roads. When you change into manual mode, it changes the timing, fuel map, shift speed and rev limit. It unlocks an extra 50hp and can be dangerous on public roads. The Infiniti user manual states that due to the extra power, manual mode should only be used on closed tracks.

I was wondering for my highschool drags, it is a quarter mile race on the track and I just want to beat a friends 2004 Mustang Gt

The only mods I have are a Short Ram Intake, Engine Damper, and Plenum Spacer

Your short ram is netting you negative HP and positive sound. High school drags? More like take dads car to the track day.

The mustang and G35 will both be in the 14-15 second range, still slower than a V6 Camry.

So I should replace the short ram with a cold air intake?

If you want performance, your best be is to replace the G35 with something not overweight and underpowered. Short ram vs cold air vs stock will really make no difference at all except sound.

Talking I've got a great solution

Since A Camry is quick. Why don't we all stop modding our "G", forget about all the swaps. No need for a V8 or an RB26 engine when the Camry is is taking down everything. Shoot, I just saw a Camry take down a fully built drag car at the track and what's even more amazing is that the Camry was loaded down with groceries. Now that's amazing. Hold it, hold it. I just had a stroke of genius. Why don't we all swap out the VQ for a Camry V6 and tranny. We can turn our cars into fwd and with the new Camry engine and tranny we would be unstoppable. People would start calling us Leonardo DeCaprio because we'd be KING OF THE WORLD....what do you guys think. FWD "G" here I come...

Putting an intake on a G35 makes about the same difference as putting makeup on Integra girl.

Talking The killer "G"

Everybody knows that most intakes don't work but that's the beauty off modding a car. Finding what does work and sharing it with others. As for the picture...you have a lovely girlfriend...NOT but, I still say the FWD "G" is the way to go. Think of all the races we'd win. We'd take down EVERYONE. No one could stop us (enter evil laugh here), (enter evil laugh here), (enter laugh here)....
