5AT Tranny upgrades

I spoke with Maximum Tuning in NY this afternoon. They have developed a valve body fo the Alti's and I was hopeful they could help out with us. I was suprised when he said no one had called requesting this. Anyway, he will do some research and call me back later next week. I would like to upgrade the VB, TC and possibly change the shift points. Strangest off all - he has had several requests from Lexus SC430 owners. I thought these were bought mostly by older baby boomers.

Can you find out if they are going to do something about the TCU, so we don't have to do a reset every month?

Valve Body, the guts of the slushbox. Tuning it can yield faster (harder) shifts.

I am very interested in this as I would like to beef up the tranny before I install any kind of FI setup. Where in NY are they located ?

A/T Upgrades

Guys - I just removed my T/C & valve body & they're on their way to Level 10 to be modified. I'm requesting them to
re-stall the T/C at 2800 rpms & they already offer a V/B upgrade which yield firmer & slightly quicker shifts. The T/C mod costs $498 & the V/B ( Level 10 calls it a "Hydrosystem" ) upgrade goes for $698. It'll be the middle of November before I get a chance to play with the G ( due to work demands ) but I'll post up results & opinions ( both positive & negative ) ASAP.

Cool bro. You're the first I've read about who's attempting this upgrade. Keep us up on how it goes.

Early Expectations

I did a similar tranny upgrade with my GS400 & saw my quartermile times drop an average of .35 seconds. The GS4 is a heavy car & has longer gears ( 3.23 vs the 3.54's in the G35 ) so I don't look for quite as dramatic an improvement on the G35 but I'd still wager that, besides nitrous, the tranny work ( if successful ) will yield the best "bang for the buck". It doesn't create power ( does multiply torque ) but allows the auto-tranny to better use the available engine power. My G35 shifts surprisingly firm as it is now ( expecially the 1-2 shift )
so the shift kit may be overkill ( unless I add a ProCharger or Twin Turbo setup later ).

Re: A/T Upgrades

Good points, all!! I appreciate your advice & sharing your educated viewpoints on auto trannies. I had heard the same concerns on my Lexi but went ahead with the project & the car's OK after 3+ years ( it's the wife's ryde ). Of course, there's always the FIRST time, huh?! I'll just be the guinea pig for the G35 family so wish me luck! Results to follow in a few weeks.

Re: A/T Upgrades

Excellent points

I am going to send my TC to EdgeRacing in SoCal after it was taken off the tranny. I am now worried about what you said.

If I do have the TS ecu reflash already and assuming it does dial down the addaptivity of the ecu, is it ok to go with this mod? I am only going to bring in the clearances and not affect the stall speed. What worries me more is the CES light! Do you think this will happen with my proposed mod? Assuming aI am not changing the shift firmness (valve body) or anything, just trying to make the TC more efficient and possibly multiply the torque more!

Thanks

Gurgen

MeanGene, some good work you are doing! I am also neck deep in this project, although I was going to post something later as soon as I got some results. My TC is going in hopefully this coming saturday (in 1 week).

RamboRami: haha thanks, I love that monkey. Its one of the things that always sticks in my mind about The Family Guy...loved that show...I got all the DVD's but I wish there was more.

But about Maximum Tuning, they are a pretty young company, they started out working on Nissan Maximas (if I recall correctly) as I have read about them on Maxima forums when I owned my last car.

And their website is http://maximumtuning.net
