At first glance, all these things seem to be constructed similarly (except the Stillen using 8 ga Tsunami wire), but on closer inspection, and over time, the GroundingGear really looks to have superior construction. I'm surprised that you didn't notice the difference. As a matter of reference, which other ones did you try?Registered User

Are you sure they still have the TCM bult into the valve body? My understanding is that Nissan tried this in only a very short production run in 2004, and then went back to the original location because of extra stress on the TCM. The Infiniti ESM also has the original location indicated in the diagrams on the '05 and '06.Originally Posted by helldorado
Everybody seems to be forgetting that from 04.5+, the TCM is built into the valve body. That's a big reason there is improved performance with those models over previous.

But then rick.. are you talking about "G35 Short 3.917 Final Drive and OEM Visc LSD" that is stated on the 350EVO site? your telling me to buy this one? and then just bring this to Garage5 and swap it with my current gears??

Yep - or you can also buy the Nismo or other diff - but more expensive. What you'll get is a complete pumpkin, geared and shimmed and ready to be installed. Swap out your diff with the new one and send the old one back for the core charge refund....or keep it for a spare and eat the core.Originally Posted by Kensi

I would suggest though, that you get the cooler cover for the diff - it will drop the temps down about 20-30 degrees, and the new gears will run hotter.
Only use Mobile 1 oil for the diff - works great and is also recommended by 350EVO.
Keep in mind - if your AT - you HAVE TO buy the diff anyways. The gears are made for the 6MT cars - and the ring and pinion are at a different offset than the AT car diffs.

My FSM for my '05 coupe shows and refers to the "transmission control valve with TCM." From that description and the images I see, it looks like its part of the valve body. You're the first person I've heard say they went back to the 03-04 design after 04.5.Originally Posted by ckg35

Is there a link to this pre-made, ready-to-swap 3.917 pumpkin/LSD (5AT) that you can post so I can check it out?
How much $$ are we talking (excluding shipping/install)? And how much of a refund would I get by sending them my core unit?

Nope - 350EVO just wants the LSD and the housing - your old pumpkin is core...your buying new parts, so they don't care about your ring and pinion sizes....at least that's how it was a 1.5 years ago when I did mine...Originally Posted by rookie
Pretty sure you need a 3.5 core to rebuild to 3.7 or 3.9.
