Re: Correct way to drive tip-tronic

The coupe will only down shift when required by RPM. It is a very aggressive Tiptronic / Manutronic whatever...

It never seems to need 2nd gear at all, usually will go to 3rd, then 1st, If I slow down fast enough just 1st. If you want it to do all that work for you Just leave it in Manual.

As for wear and tear on downshifting, I think heat is you biggest enemy there, but as long as you are not dropping it into 6k RPM it should not have any excessive wear... That is the best part of Tiptronic is the ability to leave the car in (lets say 3rd) gear for slower speeds & hill descents and just be able to flip up or down for the next gear...

Re: Correct way to drive tip-tronic

Tre5 & rxkevin:... I wasn't aware that the tranny will shift down in Manumatic mode while you have it at full throttle ( like it would during a full throttle 'forced' downshift in 'D'. I know that as you slow (in manumatic) the tranny shifts down all the way to '1' if you stop. and, in the Sedan, it shifts back up to where you left the selector. This differs slightly to the Coupe in that when you slow with the tranny in manumatic, not only does the tranny shift down to '1', but also the indicated # in the display "follows" the downshift to '1'. This makes it necessary to upshift from '1' again to a higher gear.
I like it now but after the Sedan, it took some getting used to.
I'm in the habit, with the Coupe, of not quite stopping at corners now (hope the 'man' isn't watching) so that the tranny doesn't go to 1 but stays in 3. This saves shifting back up.
I like the Coupe's box even more than the Sedan's. Lot's of fun.

Hey man, the Sedan's a nice ride. If you're young with a family
the Sedan gives you the best of both worlds, with more space and 2 more doors. It's not a whole lot diff. from the Coupe----------------But the diffs I LOVE. If you can swing the trade and don't need the space or the doors, you can get a heck of a deal on a trade right now (at least here you can).
Trouble now is supply. If you order now, you're looking at April/May delivery maybe later...................
If wifey hassles ya, just blame it on that wacky SOB up in 'Canader' who doesn't keep cars longer than it take to fill the ashtrays. LOL...........Good luck

The bigger backseat of the sedan comes in handy on those special dates

Bad financial choice. Roof first. Car second. Gotta have a place to store the G35 at night.

So far my biggest use for the manual shifter has been to keep the car down in 2nd or 3rd in the mornings so it warms up quicker, and the defroster can kick in. The wife gets the covered parking spot, I get the morning dew.

Re: Correct way to drive tip-tronic

haha I am 20... no wife... no kids... hehe but i like the sedan for its space.. but the coupe looks awesome and if i diddnt care about carrying more than 2 additional people (because theres no way anyone can fit behind me in the coupe) i would think about it.. spent too much on the sedan to get rid of it tho... clearcorners (which wont fit on the coupe)...system installation..wheels... and if i do think about getting a coupe i would get A/T... but i want the brembos that come with M/T... but i dont konw how to drive MT... yeah..its sad i cant drive MT..
