Dealer replacing my 6mt tranny

Well, after months of taking it in - finally the 45 min drive to the better dealer payed off.

They are replacing my 05 6mt tranny, which was grinding into 2nd 6th and reverse....especially cold start and going into reverse quickly after turning on the engine. They said the syncro's where messed up....not exactly sure what they are or how a tranny/engine work - but none the less thats the deal.

Had a couple questions now, should i ride the car easy until the tranny breaks in 200/300 miles? or is there no break in period? also, do they replace the clutch itself with this new tranny? they had ordered some hryolic cylinder or something earliar during the week, and today they called saying they are replacing the tranny....so does that mean brand new clutch?

No. The clutch won't be changed. That's usually a wear and tear item. Depending on the mileage of your car, you may want to ask the technicians how your clutch looks to save you the labor expense of having to install one later.

As far as breaking in your tranny, I am not aware of any special conditions to follow. Just stay off the drag strip and let all the parts set in nicely.

just got the car back - and i can tell they changed it....clutch is very soft...(guess it was the hydrolic pump they changed). Car doesnt make the clatter sound when turning off anymore, and it jumps ito gear quicker.

will see if any problems come back.

Some dealers have changed the clutch with a new 6MT, congrats! There have been 1,000's of us with new tranny's put in. Some people are even on #4 or 5.

after taking the g out on a friday night....god it feels nice again, lol....

anyway's i noticed a loud whine when in first gear from 4k rpm's and dropping down without giving it gas....obviously coming from the tranny, only i didnt notice it before, its pretty loud - although it seems normal. Happens in 2nd gear also, only 75% quieter than it would in 1st, and doesnt happen in 3rd..... sorty like the whine you hear going reverse.

Should i worry about it? or bring it up to the dealer?

Also, my clutch is SOOOOOOOOOO soft now! wow, its like night and day, i dont like it =\ It helps shift a bit smoother, but its just feels so wierd ...o_O

I suggest you take your car in. I don't have any drivetrain 'whine'. If they tell you its normal ask them to give you a ride in one of their a new coupes' and show you how it is 'normal'.

I only get the whine in first if I am slowing down and putting the car in 1st gear while going between 15-20.

BTW, I was one of the lucky few that had his whole clutch assembly replaced as well.

Gotta love Infiniti.
