5AT hesitates/slips out while cruising.

My car seems to hesitate randomly every once in awhile while cruising or under normal acceleration. It's very light, but it feels like either the transmission slips out of gear for a split second or the engine misses a beat. I just had the 60k service done (Im at 58k miles) and they said they couldn't find any problems. Any ideas?

I'm going to try and take it to another infiniti dealer about an hr away, or take it to an independent mechanic. I want to figure this out before Im out of warranty.

I need a better decription of the problem before I can give you any ideas about what the problem is. My initial thought is it is indeed normal and you're sensing the torque converter locking and unlocking at low rpms and under heavy load.

Thanks for taking interest dave. Its usually occurs under normal acceleration or when I am just holding my speed steady. The majority of my driving is a 7 mile commute and it usually occurs 2-3 times during that period. I didnt start noticing it until a few months ago, but it really feels lilke the tranny slips out fo a split second. I drive pretty conservative during my commute; no hard acceleration, just the basic flow of traffic type of stuff.

So just imagine, your holding your speed steady around 50 mph and all of a sudden you feel like the car dropped out of gear for a split second and then kicks right back into place. Another way to describe it might be taking your foot off the gas for a second and then putting it back on real quick, although I am holding the gas steady when this occurs.

Perhaps knock? Perhaps transmission? Not sure how'd you go about diagnosing that... You could try an octane booster at your next fill up and see if it goes away. When did you have the tranny flushed? They changed the service interval recently down to 1 yr for a drain, refill or 2 yrs for a full flush using their special machine.

For documentation purposes, I would have your dealer document that you feel there is a problem with the transmission on this date / current miles so that if something crops up later, you'll be covered...

Are you in Drive?

Is the road level or are you going up a slight incline?

When the issue occurs, do the rpms jump up or go down?

If the rpms jump up, do they jump up by about 200-400rpms?

Came across a thread on this back from 2004...

The same thing happens on my car when holding a steady speed between 40-50 mph. I did a search on this site a little while ago and it appears to be "normal." Here is a link to a thread back from 2004 regarding this issue.

And another from 2006.

Let us know if you get anwhere with the dealer.

thanks for the help guys.

bud, your a better searcher than me, and I appreciate it.

I dont remember seeing RPMs dip. Pretty much all the roads in this part of florida are fairly level. Im in drive, I rarely ever go to manual-matic. The car is bone stock.
