Clicking sound - from the outside...???

I have nearly same symptoms as described in this thread with one key difference - I can only hear the clicking sound from outside of the car (or with the windows down)... It's definitely not coming from inside the car.

Any ideas?

Hope this is the end-all post since this is how I fixed mine. After multiple attempts of rotating the cotter pin/dowel that is easily accessible, the noise was still there. I ended up putting my finger on the spring (just slightly since there's moving parts) and felt that was where the popping was prominent. When you press the clutch pedal in, the spring tension is released, extending the spring. I pushed up (towards the steering column) on the spring and it shifted up slightly. Release pedal and.... NO MORE POPPING FOR SIX DAYS SO FAR!!!

Not many accomplishments merit Caps Lock, but

THE POPPING HAS ULTIMATELY CEASED!!!

save a trip to the dealer and do this yourself. it literally takes about 1 minute to re-seat the spring and the best part is no tools are required.

Im a bit confused about how you did this. I think I have this problem. When Im at a stop light and I put the car in neutral and take my foot off the clutch there is a constant clicking I hear. Not sure where its coming from, is this the same thing?? Thanks!

The issue you have is not related to the topic in this thread. I believe your issue is related to the throw-out bearing. The issue in this thread involves a single click noise every time you release the clutch, NOT a constant clicking/ticking during the time the clutch is released. Try some other searches as I've seen your issue discussed previously.

ok I actually did have this problem, the click is gone but now when I release the clutch it makes this sort of thud noise and sticks at the very top for a second and I smelled burning when I got out of my car today after driving to work. Any idea what this would be??

Ok so heres one for you guys. I have an 05 coupe and when i bought the car there was a clicking sound as if the pressure plate springs were loose. It does it under load and release of load. Tonight after having the car running for roughly an hour i went to leave and the pedal was getting stuck about mid stroke. The clutch is still engaging and disengaging but its as if it gets stuck right after the release point. does that have to do with the throwout bearing or is it vacuum related ? I have the JWT clutch kit thats on sale in the vendor forums part with all the goodies as well ss line as well. Any information will help out alot .
