Unless your racing or climbing a steep hill the VQ has always had plenty of torque to keep up with traffic. As a result I average at least 24 mpg per tank, and I believe its one of the reasons im still able to keep the original cluch in the car for so long. I have over 106K miles now.
By driving "cool" some may achieve easily 22-24MPG in mixed driving.
Hard to stay in that mode 24/7 though when the G is begging to be "handled".

That made no sense.
6 gears is for performance as well as economy.
One gear would definately not save gas.

they made 6 gears 1,2,3,4,5,6 for a reason...to use them
if that saves gas then they should make only 1 gear for all the cars...that would save 1/6 of the gas bill yes?

So--it goes into 6th and I just cruise from there....Contrary to what some people are saying here, skipping gears does not hurt the car. Not sure if it really helps fuel economy that much either though. had a 95 maxima that I drove to 140K miles with a lot of shift-skipping (1-2-5) and never had a tranny issue.
