As a result I average at least 24 mpg per tank, and I believe its one of the reasons im still able to keep the original cluch in the car for so long. I have over 106K miles now.
^^Doing pretty much the same, 2K RPM is a good rule of thumb when shifting, coasting a good idea, and using the brakes as little as possible to optimize fuel economy as well as minimize wear and tear on tires and pads.

By driving "cool" some may achieve easily 22-24MPG in mixed driving.
Hard to stay in that mode 24/7 though when the G is begging to be "handled".

skipping gear could save gas, but only if you are gentle on the throttle. if you go 1 to 3 and then mash the throttle b/c you want more pickup, as opposed to 1 to 2 with gentle throttle, it would be counterproductive.

I go 1-2-6 occasionally, but its not to save gas, its because of how fast I am going by the end of second already

I drive an SRT8 with no overdrive gear

11mpg on a good tank, 13.5 is my best.

+1....I do the same sometimes. If I'm already going 50MPH in 2nd, why row throw 3,4,5 when I'm not really going to accelerate anymore. So--it goes into 6th and I just cruise from there....Contrary to what some people are saying here, skipping gears does not hurt the car. Not sure if it really helps fuel economy that much either though. had a 95 maxima that I drove to 140K miles with a lot of shift-skipping (1-2-5) and never had a tranny issue.

That made no sense.

6 gears is for performance as well as economy.

One gear would definately not save gas.

they made 6 gears 1,2,3,4,5,6 for a reason...to use them
if that saves gas then they should make only 1 gear for all the cars...that would save 1/6 of the gas bill yes?

Exactly, if you are already going 50-60 and have reached your cruising speed, go straight to 6th, do NOT make a stop in 4-5.
