Quaife LSD

Here is a message from Quaife after I asked them if they had one currently (they don't), then asked them what we could do to encourage them:

"Well, I guess to get the ball rolling if one of you could send us a stock G35 differential to look at and pattern from we could than quote you a price based on a minimum production run of 30 units. We will of course return the unit to you whether you choose to proceed or not."

So.. anybody have a diff laying around to send them?

I think I'll put a web site together and post on all the boards I can find to gauge interest and try and get 30 serious buyers...

Excellent! I'll PM you... Anyone else interested, they need 30 to make it worth their effort. Any boards you guys can recommend to wrestle up interest?

Re: Quaife LSD

I'll throw myself into the interested pool as well. Just want to be able to let them know that there are people with Sedans that still want to run an LSD.

Re: Quaife LSD

I would definitely be in for a Quaife. No maintenance and no noise compared to a clutch type diff. Performs like a charm. I've only heard good things about them. The question is would they need to make different versions for the 6MT and 5AT? And if so would they? In order to get them to make it we would need at least 30 confirmed orders. The guys over at Club 3G (3rd Gen Eclipse) have waited over 2 years to get their Quaifes made.

Re: Quaife LSD

would they have to make diff versions for MT and auto? good question, anybody know? (i know about having to swap the MT ring and pinion for other LSDs, would the same thing be applicable here? if we send them a diff from an auto, will they build if for an auto only???)

Re: Quaife LSD

Well a MT open diff or MT LSD equipped car is different from the auto tranny open diff, we know you have to swap in the ring a pinion gear set out of a MT car. They need a diff out of a MT car. They should also get a diff off a auto car that has the LSD from the factory, would be nice to know how they worked the ring and pinion to still have the normal auto ratio and just in case since we don't want any surprises like the open diff auto cars gave us.

I have a idea that may be able to get them a MT diff and maybe a dealer. I'll make some call's tomarrow and see who I can connect with. Since the business like's secrecy, no comment at this time, would hate to blow it before it's even started.

Re: Quaife LSD

This is great news, count me in for sure for the 6MT. Based on their website, I'd expect this to cost $1500.

For us open-diff owners, I'm guessing we would still need to buy the extra $400 worth of stub axles, seals, and bearings? Or if we send them an open-diff from a 6MT (and get at least 30 2003 open-diff sedan owners in on it) would we need to worry about the extra parts?

Re: Quaife LSD

As far as what needs to be replaced for the quaife to work, it would probably depend on what part they took in as the prototype part. Their diff's are awesome! Driving in a stock vlsd equipped car and then a quiafe equipped car back to back is night and day.

Re: Quaife LSD

GSedan, that would be awesome if you could work up a 6MT diff somehow. Hopefully Gurgen can send in his auto open diff. So to recap Quaife would need the following diffs??? correct me if I'm wrong.

1. MT Open or LSD Diff
2. Auto Open Diff
3. Auto LSD Diff

Re: Quaife LSD

I would be interested although I would need to know more about price and performance before committing.

Re: Quaife LSD

I think they should get a oem LSD from MT and AT. We already know the conversion factor involved for both the AT and MT open diffs, with the AT version requiring the MT's ring and pinion gearset. I'd hate to see them model the open diff AT and create a part that see's can only be used on AT open diffs.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Shawn at Quaife, he agree's with me that they will need a oem LSD diff from a MT and AT car and not to send any open diff's their way (thanks however gurgenpb).

On that note I made another call to source the MT LSD diff and work on marketing. The person I need to speak with will not be in until mon-tue. Due to details I have discussed with Quaife, it is critical that I speak to this person before I speak with anyone else in the industry.

Re: Quaife LSD

we don't know yet, they'll quote once we send them a unit... i'd plan on about the $1500 of most of their ATB diffs... but the real answer is we don't know yet...
