Cool I can't drive an automatic !

at least the manumatic.

this is crazy I never had any trouble shifting my manual 708 RWHP Mustang with a TKO transmission, short throw shifter and a SPEC clucth. I have tried to manual shift my 5AT to get the higher rpm's but it always bounces off the rev limiter. When I push it up to shift it doesn't seem to shift fast enough to avoid hitting the rev limiter. And it hits the rev limiter pretty hard

what am I doing wrong ?

Years of reading here indicates that a grounding kit improves performance, but there are differing opinions so take it for what it's worth - lots of butt-dyno here.

I do not have a grounding kit. On the rare occasions I run to redline, I have the timing down to max revs and not hit the limiter. In time you'll get the rhythm.

Hard shifts (firm bump) between the 1-2 and 2-3 are common as well. Some folks feel one more than the other, but most everyone has it occasionally.

Have fun, but be careful out there. We don't need to see a 'ticket' thread.

You have to shift BEFORE you get to the rev limiter to account for the delay

why even use manumatic? is it actually faster? when i drove a loaner with AT, all the manumatic did was frustrate me. Yeah, you can time it so that it doesn't redline, but it sucks to have to predict when you want to shift that far ahead of time

K that's all I needed to know. Figured it was better to ask here then to blow up my motor trying to figure it out. Pretty lame by Infiniti

suppoed to be since it should allow you to get to the true redline rpm. Most who race for 1/4 ET's all seem to use it to squeeze the extra horsepower. Leaving it in "D" will shift before the redline.

yeah you'll find that sweet spot soon where it'll shift right before the rev limiter if you shift up a few hundre RPM before

When I first got my car I really couldn't drive an automatic. After +/- 15 years of owning manuals every time I tried to start the car I couldn't find the clutch. Then when I stopped I couldn't get the key out because it was still in drive.

Seriously though, you just need to find the sweet spot a few hundred RPM's before redline.

For my 03 sedan, this is what I've found works:

1-2 shift: Good luck. The engine winds up too quickly for the optimal upshift. When I'm at the strip, I let the car shift the 1-2 itself because it shifts right at 6600rpms and it shifts hard. If I manually shift, I either hit the limiter or I have to deal with the nasty torque management nanny killing power momentarily when entering 2nd gear. If I'm feeling froggy on the street, I'll gun it in 1st and upshift at 5000-5500rpms and it shifts almost instantly with no nanny intervention.

2-3 shift: When you see the tach hit 6400rpms, upshift. The shift will occur at an indicated 6600-6700rpms. No nanny intervention.

3-4 shift: Same thing. 6400rpms.
