Clutch Test??
Hey guys, I did my first track day this past weekend. Did horrible since it was my first time at the track.
The following day i was driving my car i smelled a slight burning smell, it came inside the car but not outside. But i only noticed the smell if say I was just cruising at slow speed in say 3rd or 4th in a residential area or parking lot where i may be in 2nd or in slow traffic i might smell it. lately i havent really smelled it that much as before. I can still hear the clutch chatter also.
What are ways to know if your clutch is bad? I have had manual cars before but i never ever had to have a clutch replaced in them.
Ive had the G for about a month now, and the clutch definately took some time to get used to. When i would always shift into 2nd i would always get a jerk but now i dont notice it anymore. and even the downshifts are smoother also.
Also i did search and it said one way to know if your clutch is going is when you shift the rpms drop for a little bit before it comes back up. But how much do they drop before it comes back up. RPM's already drop anyway between shifts but i am thinking i may be paranoid and think that it drops more than it should only because thats what i found out when i searched.
Thanks.
Any advice or tips to know what to look for and to tell

clutch test
The way that I test mine is to get in to say 3rd gear and stay at around 3-4k rpms, then lightly press on the brake while giving it alot gas at the same time. If your clutch starts slipping then more than likely you will need to replace it. I know that there are other ways, but that is the way that I test mine.

O ok, so if the rpms are increasing and I am not going anywhere than thats a clue...I'll try that later.
Anyone else?

Well, the way I test on my daily driver (MR2) is to put it in 4th gear (you may wanna try 5th since the G is 6spd), yank up the e-brake.
Bring the RPM up just a little and then let the clutch out like starting off in first.
Try not to let the car die from bogging.
What you're wanting to do is not fry the clutch even more but try to see if the car dies because the clutch grabs or if the car stays alive because the clutch just slips and won't grab.
Sorta like what, hampton was describing.
There was a guy about 3 weeks ago who did the same thing, just drove the car real hard for a night, noticed the smell. Within a week or so the clutch was gone.
Try the test, see what happens. And try to baby it. You may have a few hundred miles or even thousands left... hard to tell.
