changing rearend gears?

Anyone change out their rearend gears with a numerically higher set? My old car was a mustang and I changed the rearend a month after buying it. I went from 3.08s to 4.10s.
Just wondering if anyone has done this mod to their G. The way this engine revs, the car screams for gear change.

Yes, do a search, there are some EVO gears for our cars. Also, search on my350z.com for the same thing. Was going to get them, but I already have enough difficulty keeping my tires to the road with the nitrous that the gears would make it worse.

There's a high possibility that the cruise control will not work with a rear end gear ratio change.

Re: changing rearend gears?

there are some 3.90:1 gears out there for the Z. there are fitment issues on the non LSD G's. You need extra pieces for these. Also the Z roadster comes with 3.5 gear and that is a nice mix.

If you plan on FI'ing the car, I think that taller gears would be better as I am already exceeding my traction. From what I have been reading, 1st gear is nearly useless with the Vortech

Re: changing rearend gears?

what do you do about calibrating your speedo? In the stang tranny you had to switch out the speedo gear, what about the G35?? Is it handled with an ECU upgrade?

Re: changing rearend gears?

as of right now, you can't do [censored], other than put a yellow sticky on your dash with say "+30%" or some such. Mine says "+2%" cause of my tires.

Re: changing rearend gears?

that's not true...many cars have the speed sensors on the tranny, but the G has them on the rear hubs. changing gears would have no effect, since it is the wheel speed (actual speed of the car), and not the driveline speed that registers on the speedo. changing anything outside of the hubs, like wheels and tires will effect the speedo.
