Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

I just got back from the Infiniti dealer. I asked about having my
5AT Tranny program updated. My service advisor went and
talked with the technicians. He informed me it could not be
done. Reason: The new program goes along with the new TCU
unit, which is completely different from mine. The new TCU
actually sits inside the transmission, as opposed to mine
which is located in passenger foot well. I said, "but I want
the software updated, not the TCU". He said he understood,
but the two were not compatable. What is the truth here?
My dealer and their technicians appear to know what I am
asking for. They tell me it can't be done. What do I need to
communicate to them to have this done? Anyone?

Yes, that's what InfinitiTech said.

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

Well, I have done that reset twice now. It does seem to work.
Last time I connected each cable to my ratchet driver handle,
as the cables do not seem to easily reach eachother. It
worked pretty well.

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

Stopped in to my local dealer today and had them check the software version on my May 03 build Coupe and they found out it was AL013. That is the current program and there is no update required. Just FYI so that anyone who has a newer build should have nothing to worry about.

Oops! Tried to edit post but it won't let me! The build date is actually April 03. It was delivered late May.

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

If you go into your dealer ask for the TCM software version if it is other than 31036-AL004 for a sedan they CAN update it. It has been tried and tested.....For a coupe the latest is 31036-AL013.....Alot of dealers arent aware of this update nor what it does. I had to do some research with the guru's of Infiniti to get some answers..

Hi InfinitiTech,

Nice to see someone who is so knowledgable on board while only gives unbias opinion. I have question for you. I was thinking getting the R-Tune Chip from Nismo. Do you think it worth while? All the S-Tune and R-Tune parts seems to be so expensive. But I guess maybe because it doesn't void the warranty?

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

Ya know what Bro, you need to ask Gurgen on these threads. He has a chip in his ECM that seems to work pretty good. And it doesnt mess with the factory version part number so dealers really cant tell..........I am actually working on his car at my dealer for some rattles I will ask him to send you a note about what he has done....

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

Hey IluvMyG35

(i do too btw....)

Anyways, here is the answer. You should NOT get the nismo R-tune- it's a waste of 1300 bucks. ANd it is clocked (timing adjusted) for 100 octane juice - the good stuff that you can get at every gas station in Japan.

The only option now is TechnoSquare. For $500-600 (depending on car) you can get your ecu reflashed (meaning update the program on it) to the optimized program. That is, no closing of the throttle plate at high rpms, no closing of the throttle plate between shifts (ATs), optimized A/F, enhanced timing (though you would have to run 91 octane exclusively), raised redline (7100rpm - but you can raise it to whatever you want, but at your own risk), removed speed governor (actually it is now set to 226 mph which you obviously won't reach).

Also, al those JDM ecu upgrades (Impul, Nismo) are all reflashed (program updates) of the stoc khardware. The computer itself is NOT changes - as it won't have to - it is the program on it tha truns your car.

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

Ok, the only question I have is what is the major difference between the 03 transmission software and the 04 one. Does the 04 software shift to 1 gear when you stop the car like it does in the coupe or no?

Re: Tranny Programming 5AT

Hey Infinititech, Thanks for the program numbers. My dealer in Denver had never heard about the new program or the fact it could be put in the older models. I had to show him a few of your posts to get him to check into it. He reprogramed my coupe AT today and I am picking it up tomorrow. Charged me $50 but I will let you know if I think it was worth it. Thanks again.
