In April I posted how to do your own transmission fluid exchange. Search for my posts and it will turn up. It should answer most of your how to questions.

I have a mechanic that suggested that the best thing was to drain and refill twice, and on the third time, flush it completely + new tranny fluid pan

Kungfu Panda, those instructions are vague enough to not make any sense. Please elaborate. Do you mean do 2 drain and fills wherein you drive for 10 minutes between drain & fills (that is how Subaru recommends it be done, they recommend 4 drain & fills instead of a flush). Then on the third time open up the pan to change the filter screen, then do a flush? With the drain plug there is no reason to remove the pan and I would not do it very often. The screen does little filtering. That is why I added a Magnefine inline transmission filter on the cooler return line.

clutchless, I mean to just drain and refill your fluid at the same time as you would do an oil change( for two times) . then on the third time, completely flush/ replace everything, the pan, the filters, etc...

Understood, but technically, you do not replace the pan. You remove it after draining the fluid in order to get at and replace the screen filter. Then re-attach the pan and use a new pan gasket or new form in place RTV silicone gasket. I have not done it on a G so do not know what type gasket is used. I know the engine oil pan uses Gray RTV silicone and suspect the tranny pan is the same.

I do not see the need for two pan drain and fills if doing a flush. All the other instructions state do one drain and fill to get fresh fluid in the pan, then a flush if doing this at home. You would just be diluting the fluid more doing two drain and fills and this fluid is about $10-12 a quart.

Makes sense.. But the problem with my G is that my tranny fluid burns quickly due to my driving style =P so I need to replace it more often then others.. I do alot of driving and like to do the shifting myself.
