I just got back from the dealer where they had to replace a damaged MAF sensor.
I was in orlando with my '05 when the car started sputtering, hesitating and losing acceleration... I was able to get it to a shop where they hooked it up to a computer and found out that something was wrong with the fuel intake. To make a long story short, I had it towed to the infiniti dealership since it wouldn't stay on anymore.
Sucks because Orlando is over 60 miles from where I live.
Sucks because this happened on a Saturday afternoon after the dealership closed.
Sucks because I have 66K miles and am out of warranty
Oh well, they said the air filter wasn't 'set' properly which allowed crap to get in and damage the sensor. At least it runs like a champ now...

thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure that's what happened to mine. My MAF wasn't seal correctly since the screws wouldn't go all the way in so dust and particles got in somehow and ultimately led to it breaking. Got a new one and replaced my fujita with the stock intake and runs flawless

Had I read this thread sooner, I would have suggested that you check your intake. This is at least the 3rd story I've heard like this. All 03 or 04's. All automatics. All complaining about loss of power in 5th gear at highway speeds. All were caused by aftermarket intakes.

took it to nissan

So I just took my G35 in to nissan for a diagnostic transmission test (this was regarding the 5th gear slipping), tech came back and said it needed a valve body and/or cillinoid (sp?) replacement. Only problem is that there are shavings in the tranny so even if they were replaced, it would soon go out again (this is what he said). He suggested that I just get another tranny. Any suggestions from here? Does this sound legit? If I need to just get a new tranny (or used) can someone recommend a seller?

damn sorry to hear that man. Just wondering how the shavings got into the intake? Did you replace the maf sensor yet? Did you put the stock intake back in? I've seen several other threads regarding this issue (including mine-this one) and they were all solved by a new maf or removing the aftermarket intake.

Even more interesting would how they could get from the intake into the transmission!

No, if he has shavings in the transmission, they are from wear on transmission parts -- not from the intake.

lmao, chris, dude this makes no sense. lean condition would be noticable at wot in each gear. only thing i can think of was that you were running lean and therefore not getting any fuel when you were trying to floor it in 5th. i dont think there was tranny slip at all to begin with. also i would imagine that your ecu would read the af and compensate with more fuel. this whole thing is screwy.

Well i've now taken my car to aamco AND the dealership...$200 later...nothing! They ran some BS diagnostic tests and still don't know. I'm tired of the bull crap. I'm trying to find a good used tranny, know a guy who will swap it out for $400. My questions is, looks like there are about 4 trannys for my 03 sedan. The production date is 08/2002. Does anyone know a part number for this specific transmission?

Quick Update

It's been a while since that post...here's the update. I found a used transmission on ebay for $300 with only 30K miles, had it installed and everything works great. Put the popcharger/z-tube back on and everything is still working just fine.
