Red face Question on RPM gauge

I hope someone can help me out.

Does anyone know if the 2008 G35 has an onboard computer monitoring and limiting RPMs?

Here's the scenario:

I was doing some hard accelerations going into the freeway. I was flooring the gas pedal and the tachometer's needle went to 8000 rpms before switching gears (I have an automatic). Redline is at 7500rpm.

I told my brother this and he says not to worry, that there's a computer on board that limits revs so that you don't bust the engine, that it's just the gauge jumping due to fast movement.

Does anyone know if he's right? I might have to use the tech-tronic shifter from now on if I want to have with my G if there isn't an onboard computer to limit RPMs.

-thank you.
