Question 6mt tranny problems

Ive searched and cant find what I am looking for so here goes. Second and third are very hard to get into sometimes especially second and sometimes is the problem. 4 months ago I took the car into the dealer and we drove it but the person driving said that it felt completely normal (also the clutch was very hard to push in and slow coming off the floor.) He told me everything was fine even though I knew it was not. The car had ~60,000 miles and he told me that if anything it could be the clutch but would not warranty it. So at 60,500 miles I bought a JWT clutch/flywheel and had my dealer install it. I never beat on the clutch for the first 1000 miles and now at 62,500 miles 4 months later second is still very hard to get into most of the time and running it hard like up to 6,000 rpms for a quick 2nd or even 3rd shift is pointless because I am unable to shift quickly without actually forcing really hard and putting some serious arm into the shift. What should I do now?? Also im 19 so the dealer may or may not be giving me full credit/fair treatment.

I get grinding in 2nd if I rev the engine too high in 1st... the sychronizers are causing my problem and yours, it has nothing to do with your clutch, I assume you did that because of the problem with the pedal not coming back up right.

The fix for my 2nd gear problem is to double-clutch it for the 1-2 shift, goes right in with no problems, try it and see if it helps your problem.

Oh BTW, I'm 35 and asked my dealer (Austin Infiniti) to investigate this problem under the drivetrain warranty and they gave me the exact same treatment as you, told me my tranny was "strong" and couldn't reproduce the problem. Basically it's Nissan weaseling out of spending money to fix poor manufacturing, I've seen lots of drivers complaining about the synchros on our 6MTs. I know for a fact the Lexus dealer here doesn't pull that crap - OMG if only Lexus made a car like the G with 3 pedals I would soooooo be driving it now.

Joe, the fix for your problem is to get a new tranny, you are only finding a work around. You bought an expensive modern luxury sports car, you shouldn't have to double clutch - it isn't 1970 anymore.

I had the exact same problem and took it to a local infiniti dealer and they gave me the same crap (JBA Infiniti in Ellicott City, MD). I replaced the clutch and flywheel with jwt (myself) and then went to a reputable infiniti dealer (Infiniti of Annapolis) in the area. No questions asked, they replaced my transmission under warranty. THEY ARE LYING TO YOU AND YOU SHOULD NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN A NEW TRANSMISSION. I would go to your regional forum on g35driver and ask for a reputable dealer. You may also want to call corporate infiniti customer service or even bbb. I hate the fact that some dealers who represent the infiniti brand are not willing to stand behind their products through thick and thin. Don't let your drive train warranty end before it's to late...they owe you a new transmission. Don't give up!!

When I got my 6mt 5th gear would grind consistanly in the first few 4th to 5th shifts of a run. I got it six months ago and I just baby the shift to 5th the first few times after I start the car and I don't really have any problems...luckily. I do feel like it will probably come back after I pass 70k...murphy's law

I actually just had my transmission replaced (last Friday) under warranty at Crown Infiniti in Hoover, Alabama. I had a difficult time shifting into 2nd gear and into 6th gear. Every other gear was good to go...but these too would hang. I tried adjusting the shifter guide plate (this can be found by removing the shift **** and boot, the hole cover and the control lever boot). There are instructions for setting this in the Factory Repair Manual. This re-adjustment did no good. So I took it in and they replaced it, no questions asked. I am not sure if the cause was a synchro issue or a selector fork problem though as mine never did grind, which is generally evidence of synchro wear. I do know that they don not offer a rebuild option...they simply replace it. At any rate, let me know if you all have any further questions about my experience. Thanks!

OP - my tranny & clutch was replaced under warranty for very similar driveability issues as you describe. the problem is internal in the tranny, and is NOT the clutch assembly. your tranny needs to be replaced while you still have drivetrain warranty remaining.

don't let a shady dealer dictate what is and what isn't a manufacturer defect. it is well known that some G35 6mt's are faulty. if you are not satisfied with the 1st dealer, try a different one.

my original dealer tried to tell me that the grinding tranny was "normal" on 3 seperate services. i literally told them to blow it out their a$s after the 3rd complaint and took it to another dealer. the new dealer took it for one 5 minute drive, came back and immediately phoned Infiniti to start the warranty process for a new tranny/clutch assembly. 2 days later i had my car back with the fresh parts installed.

do not take "no" for an answer if you are convinced there is a problem.

well, the car is in the dealer once again today, the tech that rode with me agreed that it did not feel right but wanted to start with a tranny flush and new fluids. what a joke. hopefully though he will still be having troubles with it at the end of the day and i can get a new tranny. My warranty expires at the END OF NEXT WEEK. i will keep ya'al posted as the the progress...

Interesting reading! I had a similar experience when I first got my car. On the highway my lane came to a stop, next lane over had an opening. I hit it hard in 1st gear, about 6000 rpm and the shifter would not go into 2nd. I thought maybe I missed it since I was still not too familiar with the car and I tried 3rd, would not go there either. By now cars are approaching and I got it into 4th. I think I am going to hit a backroad later today and see if I can reproduce this issue.
