Question 5AT Transmission stall and Service Engine Soon light...

Today while just driving normal the S.E.S. light came on. I didn't really think anything of it, this is the first time I've seen it on in the car (65k miles).

About 2 hours later when I was almost home, the transmission (5AT) did something weird. I have to make a U-turn to get back into my building, and today I gave it maybe 30-40% throttle, and when shifting to second the revs kind of stuck at 4000 rpm, and shifted maybe after a 2 second delay. The shift was harsh and it seemed like something major could be wrong.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or similar stories. I'd like to get this figured out before my powertrain warranty is no more.

SES light might have caused the tranny issue.

Your AT light didn't come on did it?

Go get your SES codes read so we have more info.

No AT light. Car seemed to drive normal today. Where do you guys recommend getting the SES light checked at?

Auto Zone usually has the scanner that can be used for free...if you want to pay for it you can take it to the Nissan/Infiniti dealer.

I went to a local parts store and they let me use theirs for free.

P0455, sounds like the usual suspect here is a loose gas cap. I cleared it, and filled up the tank. Hopefully it won't come back.

You may want to check your ATF per the procedure in the FSM (can be downloaded for free from various web sites).

Was it a dealership service, or independent mechanic? I hope you got actual matic-s fluid (or J).

Yes I had a Nissan dealer do it with matic S. Expensive!

Anyway, the light came back on again. Same code. I tried to fill up the car and it would not let me fill it all the way. I cleared the code again, I am wondering if it will come back. The car did smell a bit like gas fumes the other day when I started it. Hmmm....

I know on my car there was a recall on the gas tank filler. I'm not sure if that was just 03 or if 04 was included. Call and see if thats a possibility.

Sounds like your EVAP system has a leak. That can be a PITA to trace down.

Gas mileage will suffer cuz you are leaking gas somewhere...and SES will kick on.
