Rear final drive
ok i have a couple questions on this.. i assume my 03 5at sedan has 3.3 no vlsd. what vehicles came with 3.5 or 3.7 vlsd that would be a direct bolt in replacement? i found this chart below but dont know how accurate it is, anyone have anymore info on what ones have what gears for what years, for both g35 and 350z, and what will bolt into what.
rear, AWD (3.692 ratio)
rear, RWD, 4 Dr (Sdn, 3.692 ratio), locking, MT
rear, RWD, 4 Dr (Sdn, 3.692 ratio), locking, AT

dunno where you got that list, but thats not right
03-04 5AT = 3.3 gears
03-06 AWD = 3.5
03-04 MT with sport = 3.5 with VLSD
05-06 MT = 3.5 with VLSD
05-06 5AT with sport = Not sure...some say it has VLSD and could have 3.5 gears as well.

Every AUTO 1st gen G sedan or coupe in RWD comes with 3.3 gears
Every MANUAL 1st gen G sedan or coupe comes with 3.5
2nd Gen G35 sedans all come with 3.7 gears.
All diffs from G35's and 350z's are compatible/swappable.. Not sure about AWD though. I think they come with 3.7

You are perfectly set to drop in a MT Quaife with MT 3.5 gears - I did. The Quaife requires open diff - which you have. The difference in unbelievable. I live in Canada so I have to deal with snow also. Until the switch the car was not really drivable in snow because the VDC would cut in and stop the spinning wheel - then the other wheel would spin... and the VDC would stop that wheel... You get the picture. With the Quaife, even in snow the car moves when you hit the gas. The only way to spin a wheel is to have them both spin. So, lets talk about what happens with FI on dry pavement - WOW! Enough said. I can still cut loose in 3rd if I floor it, but both wheels spin (I do need VDC off for that).
