This is a situation where we cannot tell you what to do. Its not a pro's or con's thing. Regardless of any arguable performance number differences, what do YOU prefer driving? Me personally, if a car has an available manual tranny, I go for that one hands down. I just enjoy the interaction with the car - for me, manually shifting gears and clutch can make even the slowest crappiest car still somewhat fun to drive. Both my '05 G35 coupe and my beater '97 Cavalier Z24 are manual.

And like someone else said - I'd rather opt to just not get a car period than to get one in automatic even if its a few thousand cheaper than a comparable manual. For me, its just not an option at this point in my life.

Wow 14.0 @ 102.3, what mods have you put on your G?

OH btw I should probably say, I've already made my mind up to wait and find the perfect 6mt,not settle for an auto

Traffic is never an excuse for choosing a type of transmission. I live and commute in L.A... capital of freeway hell. My gas foot gets tired 5x faster than my clutch foot.

Either way, it's a completely subjective decision. Test drive both, and decide. Threads like these are going to get you nowhere.

Actually, what's going to get me to nowhere even quicker is people like you saying that right after I said that I'm waiting for a 6mt (for the like 6th time in this thread). And I can't delete the thread. Enjoy on your G and thanks for the input, and I can not wait to get mine.

The 14.05 @ 102.3 was run maybe a week or so right after I bought the car and it was 100% bone stock at the time. I have since added a Popcharger/Z-tube and an HR y-pipe. I have not gone back with those mods yet.

The reason I said what I said is because you should never base your decision on what other people prefer. Make up your own mind based on experience (test drives).

And you can delete your own thread (not that im implying you to do so).

Just a quick question for you guys who really know engines and torque an all that. I have an 05 AT coupe and a buddy of mine has an 06 6MT coupe. He just learned to drive stick the other day but that extra 18 HP is still messing with me. I don't plan on street racing or anything like that but I know on paper he would probably get me but I was wondering if sticking it in manual mode would help with the quicker shifts? I drive in MM 99.7484% percent of the time so I know good shifting points but it's lowkey bothering me because he's talking all this sh*t about how he'd walk on by me and we're both stock! I'm guessing his 19's are a little heavier than my 18's?? Not asking to get flamed here, just asking a hypothetical question. Thanks in advance.

Stick with what you want, don't settle for the deal. You'll come back and regret every bit of it. I learned it in the hard way, had an auto for 2 months and coudln't handle it anymore and traded in for a 6MT. Follow where your hearts at, and buy when the timing and car come up right.

If he just started learning, you'll walk him hands down.. Gs aren't easy to drive but once he gets it down. You'll be expecting to watch his azz every time as he starts pulling away after around 60-65mph.

Damn. So the 19's are lighter than the 18's. But yea, he's had his for about 2.5 months and was stalling out earlier but might have the hang of it now. But the manual mode doesn't help at all versus just leaving it in D?

To drive a manual from a dig takes some practice. It's simply not a drop the clutch and hammer the gas situation. In a manual, you'll either bog down from too low of a launch or spin like crazy from too high of a launch. I've had over 300 passes at the strip in the past 14 months and it still takes some practice. every track is different. You just have to get in the right groove. Once you have a good feel of the car at launch, you'll start to get better.

See my videos from the strip in my sig below.

Oh ok. I know for sure he isn't a master at launch so I might be able to gain a little lead from the launch then. I was just wondering how the AT would fare out against the MT especially if the AT was driven in manual mode.

It's all gonna fall down on the drivers.

The only thing I can tell you is to take it to the track and see for yourselves. That's the best way to do it.

In my experience, we did this a while back. I was pretty much stock at the time. Also keep in mind that the auto has 3.3 gears while the 6MT has shorter 3.5 gears.

Yea, I figured it was pretty much a driver's race since we're both stock. It'll be interesting. Hopefully I can shut him the F up. Lol
