I don't plan on street racing or anything like that but I know on paper he would probably get me but I was wondering if sticking it in manual mode would help with the quicker shifts? I drive in MM 99.7484% percent of the time so I know good shifting points but it's lowkey bothering me because he's talking all this sh*t about how he'd walk on by me and we're both stock! I'm guessing his 19's are a little heavier than my 18's?? Not asking to get flamed here, just asking a hypothetical question. Thanks in advance.
You're going to smoke him. With the auto, you mash the brake, mash the gas, let go of the brake and you'll leave him in the dust. Shift the 2-3 and 3-4 at 6400rpm indicated. The difference between a 6MT and 5AT is so minimal. We're talking about .1 seconds in the 1/4 mile. My 03 5AT sedan, which is supposedly the slowest, went 14.3@98mph with a Z-tube at a not so good track. 9 out of 10 6MT owners struggle to go 14.4s.

^I was getting 14.0@102 with sh!tty 60ft times. I agree that most 6MT drivers don't know how to properly launch and shift a 6MT down the track.

I decent 6MT driver has a good advantage vs an auto stock for stock. 6MT's also have shorter gearing with a 3.5 vs a 3.3 gears. Most 6MT driver's fail to realize better traps and E.T.'s going past redline and shifting near fuel cut especially if it's a REVUP which is what the OP's friend has.

Auto you will beat a good amount of MT drivers since MT there is a lot more to mess up making your time slower than you can in an auto.

But we don't drive fast cars anyway and there is no way I would give up my MT for an AT, I can live with being a bit slower while having a ton more fun.

I took my car to the track literally one week after purchasing it, and within about 3 passes I ran 14.05 @ 102.3mph bone stock. Hooray for being in the other 10%! lmao
