tranny change or stall converter?

So i have a 2005 g35x, im starting to add some mods to it but i dont think its really worth it in an automatic, cause having a clutch could allow you to launch and give your car a whole cars length ahead compared to an automatic. I recently heard of possibly getting a stall converter. I just wanted to know pricing on those or weather they are worth getting, and if they are, would you either be able to turn it on and off easily or engage the gear using tech-tronic shifting on your car.

Any other tips on ways to launch with an auto would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard only good things about torque converters, except one brand that was having problems with breaking. Done remember the brand though. Something 10. Expect to pay around $600 or so.

Read up on torque converters.

I knew a guy that had an 03 eclipse GTS, it was a v6 FWD 210 hp stock blah blah blah. he also wanted to upgrade his eclipse to make it faster and wanted to put a S/C in the long run. but he hated the fact that it was an auto (4speed) and wanted to do a 5speed swap then an engine swap then i just dont know what...

anyway long story short he did the whole high stall tq converter. got like the best one that was available at the time. he spent a lot of time and money, he payed like $650 for the high stall, then like another $300 to have a shop install it, cost him a little over $1k from start to finish

this is what happened after:

Did it lunch better? YES
Did it drive same daily? YES, a little higher RPM's
Did u feel any longer or harder pull through RPM range? NO
Is it worth the trouble and money? HELL NO!!!

I drove the car before(a lot of times) and after(also plenty of times) to be honest it was a complete wast of everything on the high stall. he said the something after a few days of driving it

Im not telling you to not do it, im just saying its defiantly not worth the money for the hight stall just to lunch better. it is what it is man.

It is worth the money if you're looking for a better launch, because well thats the point. It won't give you anymore power (don't know why 6spSEDANFTW! mentioned the harder pulling). Is a TT kit worth the money for 100-150hp? Not a chance, especially when they cost $7000+. If you want to get a better launch get a higher stall converter. I have one and it was a good choice IMO and I'd do it again. I just wish I had the money for tires to really take advantage.

I've heard it can give you better TQ, but don't expect to get higher peak HP.

It lets you get into the power band quicker so you can launch harder/faster.

A 5AT will beat the vast majority of 6MTs at the same power level. There's a reason all the top dragsters are automatics. That said, I think the stall on the stock TC isn't that bad, especially if you go FI (because stall is a function of input torque).

500 whp on a built 5AT with sticky tires is a dream to drive. On a G35X it would be even better.

EDIT: Please keep in mind that you cannot effectively brake stall launch a 5AT unless you disable the brake signal that goes to the ECU or disable the yaw sensor (look up posts for disabling the VDC).
