Auto Trans Clunk
Auto Trans Clunk
Hi guys,
This is my first post. I need so help/guidance.. First off I am in Canada so my number and what not will differ. I am looking at buying a 2004 G35 Auto Trans. Original owner and all service records. The car has about 80,000 km's (50,000 miles). Now I noticed while shifting from PARK into REVERSE that there was a "clunk". Another goining into "Drive" as well.
What is probably causing this??
Thank you all in advance.

First of all its wierd that i can reply to a post here that I actually have exeperince with. There is an issue with what here is called the " axle click" the sound to me is simular to stepping on broken class. I too have heard this in my 07 coupe and am having it looked at the dealer tomorrow. I also hear this click under light burping of the gas pedal when i pull into my driveway.
Im also getting better on using the "search threads" on the site..hope this helps a little

What you might be experiencing is the same problem that i had on my 04g. Every 50K or so rear axels must be regreased where they meet the wheel bearing. When you put your car in gear while holding the brake your suspenison is "prealoding) and all the forces from the driveshaft are transfered into your half shaft. What happens is that if your axels arent greased propertly you will hear that clunking noise. Please everyone else on this board correct me if i am wrong. This is my oppinion on this.

-REVISED-
2003–2005 G35 SEDAN AND COUPE; CLICKING NOISE FROM REAR AXLES
A "clicking" noise is coming from the left and/or right rear axle (driveshaft) when accelerating from a stop.
