you can probably get a used 3.5 w/vlsd for 500 or less... that's a decent option at a much lower price point.

Search the term "carrier".

I'll do what I can with the shop once I get it back. I can't switch to a 6MT ECU because the 6MT ECU for my year is for a revup.

If I bought an older ECU it won't work properly because I have wideband o2 sensors and older years require narrowband sensors, from what I understand anyway.
Easy enough - you just swap O2 sensors and go with the 2004 6MT ECU.

Just spoke to Shawn Church - he says the base model Z guys get a cc steering wheel and wire it up (all Zs are cc capable)...

I asked him about this:

he confirmed this to be true - but speculates 6 months (or more) out... he works closely with UpRev (and was just out there last week, they were at his place the week before) so I value his info and trust it to be true.

So in your case I guess the only option for now is cheap laptop or netbook and load different flashes as needed... until the tricks UpRev is working on come out.

If you change the gears, the sensor value on the driveshaft doesn't match up with that of the wheel sensors. If the difference becomes too great, the CC thinks there's a problem therefore it won't engage. The 3.69 gears cause this problem, at least in the 03/04 cars.
Is there not a tune/programmer to counter this issue? The reason i ask is because one of my boys that i work with just put bigger gears in his 05' Mustang GT, and he had to flash his ecu to calculate for the difference. Now the mph are accurate and cruise control works as well.....

^No, there isn't.

The Mustang reads the VSS in the tailshaft for both the speedometer and cruise.

The G uses the wheel speed sensors for the speedometer, and both the WSS and VSS for the cruise.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd update..

Just got my car back and JWT flashed my ECU using their own software to a 2004 6MT 350Z ECU to tune the car and my CC now works. Glad it wasn't a big issue!
