Tranny problem? Help!

Hi all, I have a big problem with automatic transmission. Car has hard time changing gears. It seems to stay on first gear and RPM goes to like 7000, before going into other gears. I took it to a repair shop and they said the tranny is shot and it will cost me about $2000 to replace, but I'm not sure if I believe them. They also used a code reader for the check engine light, but it's some kind of sensor unrelated to the tranny problem. Should I flush and put new transmission fluid first? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated before I spend $2000.

ur not a noob throwing it into sportronic without knowing are you? O.o

Sounds more like a solenoid or stuck in sport mode problem to me. Dont think sport mode lets u ride the limiter in any gear and over rides bad commands like over revving. Well then all ur other gears would do the same. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Take it somewhere else.
