2004 at diff swap

Newb here. Just got my g35 a couple of days ago. Loving the car, and rwd instead of the fwd I am used to. The only issue I have is the lack of LSD. I want to do a swap into my 04 at, $$ is a concern. I have read and researched what car comes with what, but I am not sure what diff will be a direct swap. I would prefer not to swap shafts and other parts if possible. I have found a 350z locking diff out of an automatic for $100.00. Much cheaper than anything else I've found, maybe there is a reason for that?? Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

The VLSD that comes on Zs and Gs are not real LSDs. Their ability to lock up wears out after around 60k miles. You'd basically be buying an open differential for that $100. You already have one of those.

The best option someone found for me for our cars was a helical LSD. Works similarly to the vlsd, but uses actual gears instead of special oil and plates, so it doesn't wear out. Its around $1k.

is there any way to rebuild them after they are worn out?

I'm sure there is, but i doubt the cost would make sense. Plus it'll eventually just wear out again.

Um fine with that. I just would like to know what is a direct fit and figure it out from there.

All this chat about the VLSD makes me want to pull my diff apart just to figure out what is inside.

OEM diffs from all G35's/350Z's and some G37's/370Z's are a direct fit. The only issue with fitment is some G37's/370Z's use 3 bolts to connect the diff to the drive shaft where as your car has 4 bolts. Manual G37's should have all come with 4 bolt flanges. For a diff, the newer the better since the VLSD will become less effective the longer its used.

Thank you for the info. I've read about stub axles needing to be swapped in some scenarios. I am curious if you may know when or in what scenario this would be needed.
