Transmission Issue..

I’m needing help, my g35 has a transmission issue that’s driving me crazy. The car starts up fine, sounds normal, goes into R N and D fine. The problem is when I’m driving and the car tries to reach 4th gear/40mph it just revs like it’s in neutral.. I’ve changed the filter and the speed sensor, next I was going to replace the shift solenoids but AAMCO is trying to rebuild it and I don’t wanna go that route because I don’t think that’s the problem considering there’s no slip or any noises.. what are my options??

Dealership diagnostic since they can watch data real-time and give you a definite answer to the problem. I suspect your valve body is toast though.

Tony make sure you post new threads in the appropriate forums, this one is for forum feedback and suggestions on how to make it better. The header specifically says "No car questions". I've moved your thread to the proper place.

Welcome to the family and good luck diagnosing your issue.

Actually Aamco’s fixing it right now, I don’t have all of the details as to what had been done to the car but they did rebuild my transmission and it’s costed me $3100.. that’s half of what I bought the car for smh, I honestly didn’t think I needed to have it rebuilt, maybe a solenoid replacement for the 3-4 gears but they ripped it open, ordered parts and and gave me a bill.. hope to pick it up tomorrow and see how it runs

Rebuild kit is $500, new valve body is $800, $2k in labor for removal/installation and nearly an entire day for disassembly/rebuild process.

Sounds like a fair price. New OEM units are $3500 for just the tranny, labor not included.

$3100 ain't bad. My tranny from a stealership was $4300 after install, and only got a 1-year/10k miles warranty, and that was being tight with the service manager. See if you can get some beefier parts in there while it's opened up, may as well make it indestructible.

update on my ride... i picked it up today and It’s running super strong!! I’m not sure if it’s bcuz I haven’t driven it in 5 months or bcuz they worked magic on it but I love it!! $3100 well spent so far, gotta put some miles on it and really get it rolling before I can say but as of right now it’s great!

AT's have a ton of parts inside them but it's definitely worth the time to learn how to rebuild them as well, honestly it's not any HARDER than a manual but it takes twice as long because there's so many.components especially when you're breaking down all the sun gears.

Plus side is ATF smells good and you're not stinking like thick gear oil...

Ohh and you save about two grand.
