Any help would be appreciated. Would an exhaust cam starving for oil possibly sound like this?

That sounds terrible, did you keep track 100% of which lifter bucket goes with which valve? Did you use NEW head bolts (oem ones are torque to yield which is good for a SINGLE use).

Did you add oil?

All new head bolts. All buckets were kept on place. Head bolts by the book. Timing marks all lined up

How did you keep the buckets in place when they decked the heads? Did you leave the cams installed??

If it were mine I'd start with a stethoscope to narrow down exactly where the sound is coming from but I have a feeling you'll be removing the valve covers to reinspect the work. Exactly which head gasket did you use?

Itm head gasket. I removed cams but I talked to guy at machine shop when I dropped then off he assured me they wouldn't be move. It was manually washed instead of parts washer for that reason.

Then I'd start by checking clearances on the cam buckets, .30mm for intake .33mm for exhaust, chances are you'll find the problem, hopefully there wasn't debris that washed under one of the buckets. Did you remove and inspect them all after you got the heads back?

I inspected before putting cams in and used engine lube on cams. Would a vct cam make that noise. I also bought new vct gaskets when I did this

I'd start with the mechanics stethoscope so you can narrow down exactly where the sound is coming from.
