Hello everyone, I have a 04 6mt g35 sedan and I want to switch out the ring and pinion for the 4.083 and haven't had any luck finding a used rear diff with it already installed and the closest shop to me that I would trust is 110 miles away and wants 2k parts and labor. Does any one have a diy on this so I can do it myself?

 

https://www.z1motorsports.com/transm...36-p-4523.html. About 800 for parts. Not impossible for an above average shade tree mechanic. Requires setting proper clearances and preload as well as correct tooth contact or the unit will quickly destroy itself.

 

Doing everything correctly is what's making me nervous about the install.

 

Correct tooth contact is set by shims on the pinion gear. Differential side bearings are adjustable left and right for proper clearance. Watch some videos read the service manual. Then decide. Keep searching for a used unit.

 

I appreciate the advice, I'll do some more reading and researching then fo from there.
