I put a new engine in a few days ago and the car will crank over but won't start. The tachometer doesn't move when I go to crank it. The crank sensor looked beat up so I spliced in a new connector and used an old and new crank sensor. Made sure all of the cam sensors were plugged in. Put gas in the car just to be safe. My obd2 sensor isn't able to connect to the car for some reason. I was wondering if the white ecu connector not being plugged in right could cause that or something. I haven't checked for fuel pressure, but I think it would at least start a little. Also I'm not 100% sure were the body ground is supposed to go I'm starting to run out of ideas and am losing my mind haha.

 

Body ground runs from the timing chain cover to a 2 hole lug under the coolant reservoir.

Sounds like you should check your fuses to make sure something didn't blow, you should definitely be able to connect to the ECM via OBD2.

What "white ECM connector not being plugged in" ??

 

Okay that’s where I put the ground. The white connector I’m talking about is the one right next to the ecu connector and you need to take it out the pull the harness out. It’s called a dash plug

 

If you're talking about the great big harness right next to the ECM under the dash yes you need that plugged in. It's the M72 engine harness.

 

I went and unplugged white connector and plugged it back in to no avail. I think I have to be missing some grounds or something. So I'm gonna find where all the grounds should be.

 

SOLVED

It was the front ground. It got torn off at some point of the install so I forgot about its existence, wired a new ground and she started right up!
