Tranny Gear Ratios.
I've read the transmission gears ratios for both the A/T and the 6 M/T somewhere, but can't find them at the moment. Would someone 'in the know' please post. TIA.

Re: Tranny Gear Ratios.
You can learn how well it's geared for low speed or high speed. I would prefer a low gear (high number) for quick acceleration down low. As Rambo has posted the Coupe's 1st gear is 3.79/1 which is quite low geared for quick take-offs.
The A/T gears are fewer and not as good--- 1st is probably in the 2.75-3/1 area, therefore not so quick off the line.
The other thing that affects performance is the rear gear ratio. The A/T's rear gear is about 3.3/1 whereas the M/T's is about 3.5/1-- again advantage manual tranny for quicker take-offs.
If you know the ratios in the tranny, you can improve things by changing out the rear gear to a numerically higher gear for example a 4/1 or even 5/1 for improved acceleration.
The down side of this is that the engine revs much higher and fuel economy and comfort suffer.

thanks for the info gsedanman
i found this info which may help you

It tells you that our 6mt's are geared so that only 6th is overdrive. In most 6 speeds the 5 and 6 are overdrive. You can tell the difference in our 5th gear because it still has quite a bit of pull.

Re: Tranny Gear Ratios.
speaking of gear ratios. It would be nice to have an even longer 6th gear. Cruising in 6th at 70-75 puts right around 2500. if we could get that down even another 500+rpms we would see some real nice gas savings on our long road trips.

Hey they're making a 7 speed auto now, why not a 7 speed M/T? Then you could have 2 overdriven gears. That's a lot of shifting for a manual.

Re: Tranny Gear Ratios.
or even better make the gear shorter bellow 100 that a way we can accelerate much fater.
Would it be possible to make the gears shorter for better acceleration

Re: Tranny Gear Ratios.
i have the auto i was wondering on theauto if it would be possible to change the gear. I understand that would reduce my top speed but i realy never go over 150 so its not a big deal to be

6th gear ratio - 0.79
just trying to understand the whole gear ratio concept (yes, i'm a retard
) :
if you say you would want the 6th gear to be shorter for better acceleration, does this mean that you want the ratio to be a higher number than 0.79?
and if you say that you want the 6th gear to be longer for better gas mileage, does this mean you want the ratio to be a lower number than 0.79?
thanks

Re: Tranny Gear Ratios.
It's only a cruizing gear bro. Most of your acceleration will be done by the 4 lower gears.
I don't know how feasible it would be to change gears in the tranny. Theoretically you could raise the ratio by putting a larger (more cogs) gear in if it would fit. Trouble is 4th gear is 1/1. There's not much of a gap anyway from 5th to 4th.
I personally think the way to go would be to change out the rear end gear to a 3.5 like the 6M/T or even a 3.7.. That way you're changing all the gear ratios right from 1st to 5th. This would lower your top speed some, and raise the rpm's for the same cruizing speeds tho. = worse mpg's.
