5AT Owners: Harsh 1-2 upshift when cold?
5AT Owners: Harsh 1-2 upshift when cold?
I've been noticing this lately even when the morning temps have been going up into the 40's: When I drive off in the morning after the car's been sitting overnight, the first couple of 1-2 upshifts are a little harsh- the car sort of jerks forward a little and the RPM drops very quick into 2nd. The rest of the upshifts (2-3-4-5) are perfectly fine, very smooth and unobtrusive. After a couple of mins the 1-2 shift also becomes smooth
Anyone else notice this?

Oh I should add that the harshness is only there when it shifts at low RPM (~ 2000). If I take 1st to 2500rpm then shift, it's fine. Am I driving it too slow in the morning?
Thanks for the quick reply EZZ, but why are all the other shifts smooth right from the beginning? Is it because the tranny is loaded more on the 1-2 shift, so the it's more noticeable?
