Very awesome write up! I may find time to do this before the spring's up. How long is this process? (for the novice to intermediate installer who's patient but good with electronics)

It took me around 7 hours .. but I took my time and followed every set of instructions I had .. read them until I was familiar with the process / steps

dont really need to be good with electronics .. just able to follow instructions / diagrams, turn a wrench, and fill the tranny back up correctly (cant under or over fill)

other than that .. just follow each step .. about 7 hours or a weekend and you'll be chirping tires

I drove a auto 370z around the body shop I work at .. was pretty disapointed at it compared to my 07 Z .. but that might be because of my shift kit

Is this the same for an 03 g35? I think the Z in the video is a HR right? Does HR=DE tranny/VB wise??

Yes. I believe they're all the same jatco 5 speed transmission. I have an 03 coupe and have been drooling over this for a few years. . .and was going to do it when I had my supercharger kit. But then I sold the kit.

It's this one. (RE5RO5A-HD2)

it is the same tranny on all 350z's and g35's DE or HR

however ... there are three versions .. very small differences in the valve body .. one has three *****, one has five .. there are some differences in the electronics and stuff

but the instructions from transgo cover everything about the differences

How is the transgo in daily driving? I want those quick crisp shifts when i get on it, but i don't want something that is going to jerk around the ladies during normal driving. I really want this kit though.. seem awesome. How much do shops usually install it for, and on a 1-10 scale how hard is the DIY??

you don't notice it too much in daily driving. you definitely feel the shift more than you did when it was stock, but its not obtrusive during normal driving. at WOT is a whole other story

one caveat though: when the tranny fluid is cold (for ex, when you first start driving in the morning), shifts are more noticeable. they're not hard shifts, just more noticeable.

+1 ...

in normal driving under 4000 rpm or so .. its completely normal .. just slightly quicker / firmer shifts .. not sloppy, not harsh

stomp on it and they get firmer and quicker the higher the rpm .. WOT you will be barking tires on the first few shifts

I think its the #1 mod you could do to a auto g35 or 350z .. makes the whole car feel better

That sounds great. Exactly what I'm looking for. I use the MM frequently, how are the downshifts? I've heard they are very rough. Is this true? People have said you hear a lot of hard clunks when you downshift from 3-2 or 2-1.

I don't feel the 3 to 2 and 2 to 1 downshifts are more abrupt than stock. 5 to 4 is smoother than stock IMO (happens really quick), but 4 to 3 is more abrupt than stock.

The kit is on sale at www.summitracing.com for $230 for anyone interested.

reduction in 1/4 times will depend on how fast you are already....but probably .2-.3 sec for most people

I'm going to order GTM VB upgrade, i'll get a new VB from them with the installed TransGo upgrade, so do you think it's going to be a simple swap between my original VB and the new upgraded VB?

Ride in a 03-04 coupe and downshift from 3-2 or 2-1. The 04.5 and higher coupes have rev matching to prevent the hard downshifts. 03-04 coupes don't have this feature I wish I did.

I drove Tofu's 06 G a couple weeks ago @ the 50 degree meet. I'm very please to say that regular light driving does NOT produce harsh shifts like some have complained.

Since I have an 05, I take it I'll also have a very civil daily driver! Now when I womped on the throttle then the car snapped into race mode but still didn't break my neck as it shifted...it just shifted into the next gear much quicker than before in both MM and in D

I did the 1,2,3,4 shift and then the 1...(shift @ 2750RPM)..2..(shift @ 3,000)...3 style shift as well and was very pleased!

Definitely picking this mod up as soon as I finish paying off my TT kit in a couple weeks

I don't see why not since it's already upgraded...so most of the work will already be done for you...
