Brand New System: HKS F-Con IS

Does anyone know about this system? I need engine management and was going to use the Emanage Ultimate (Shawn at SGP talked me into purchasing it already, but it is not yet installed). However, after much research I began to realize that the EU was far from ideal and that the UTEC was much better, especially for the REV-Up motor, which I have.

I e-mailed SGP about this matter and was fortunate enough to have Mark e-mail me back. Now SGP is really big on the HKS F-Con V-Pro, but I can't afford 3.2K for engine management. However, Mark told me about a brand new system, the F-Con IS. It does nearly everything and is $1,200 with the harness. I can afford that. The IS has not been released in America (barely released in Japan) but Mark has access. I think I may be the first to have an excellent affordable new management system, but was wondering what others thought. Is the IS better than the UTEC? Initially, many thought that only the UTEC could deal w/ the REV-up cams, but Mark says that it is now clear that the HKS products have no problems and many advantages.

Its not like HKS has never made an ems system before....the V-Pro is a proven system and the IS is based on the V-Pro

Ken,

There is no info on this system yet. You ARE going to need some type of engine management....did you install the MREV yet? You should also get a spacer. W/ the test pipes you will have to adjust your A/F ratio and timing.

First, you need to find a good shop. My advice would be, for the money the UTEC. However, since my shop is a certified HKS dealer w/ F-con software, I can go w/ an HKS system. The V-pro is generally reagarded as the best out there, but way more than either of us need for our N/A cars (although I may go FI someday). The V-pro is more than 3K installed and tuned. The IS is around 1700 installed and tuned. The UTEC would be around 1500 installed and tuned. The tune is critical, and some shops prefer different systems. I was leaning towards a UTEC, but my shop, SGP, does not seem to want to use this system.

Another option is the Emanage Ultimate, but the UTEC is definately better and not much more installed.

Go to my350z.com and 350z-tech (I think) for discussions of engine management systems.

Give me a call if you still have my number.

I installed the MREV2 yesterday and am going to send the core back tomorrow. With that, I will purchase the spacer(using some of the core rebate). I am also going to get the UTEC, wideband tuner and remote switch ordered up by the end of this week.. Test pipes and exhaust are going on next weekend and UTEC should be here, in my hands by the 19th. so I can install that over the weekend.. I do have a plan so lets hope it all works out.. That HKS you are talking about looks good, but I dont have that kind of shop here that is willing to work on it.. UTEC will be tuned by me with the help of Jeremy-audiblemayhem..

When I do go FI I will most likely go with VRT and they can do whatever they want as far as engine management.. If they swap the UTEC etc, I will just sell it or whatever..

Let us know when you get the HKS or whatever it is you are gonna install.. Would like to see some numbers from the Dno.. GL bro!

For now.. yes.. that isnt my intention in the near future... I have joined az350z.com and have met up with some cool peeps so I have gotten a ton of info and learned quite a bit.. As soon as I get the Exhaust and test pipes installed, I am going to the Dyno to get a baseline as the where I am at with the car..

The tune and eng. management will make all the diff. Doubt you will have to swap the UTEC since it is a very good system.

Is the HKS F-Con IS a drop-in ECU, or another piggyback? I'm not a fan of piggyback hacks. Aren't there any tuners that truly understand the ECU to the point of not requiring a piggyback? C'mon, it's been 3+ years!

There is that complete standalone, 4-5k dollar unit from Italy... I forget the name, starts with an "M"...

My feeling is that the combination the UTEC utilizes is optimal. Full stand alone control, but only when you need it.

Motec...the HKS IS is like the UTEC (an excellent system it seems) partial standalone. My tuner things the HKS is superior, and he installs lots of UTECs.

IS is brand new cousin to V-pro at half the cost.
