Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

I'm posting this here because a number of fellow G35 owners had expressed interest in the fumoto oil drain valve. The is a new 15% off coupon for all of their valves. The code is "SVC5". The code expires 12/31. Their website is www.fumotovalve.com

Hope this helps some of you out who were thinking about ordering the valve. I just placed my order for it. (Btw, i have no affiliation with the company.)

Enjoy!

I've used them on other cars and it's worth the money. You can drain oil with the flip of one hand. I recommend the version with hose barb, to allow drip free draining into oil pan.

Re: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

according to the webpage's FAQ:

Q. Will my Engine Oil Drain Valve open up while I am on the road?

A. No. In its closed position the Engine Oil Drain Valve extends from the oil pan only about one half inch more than a standard oil drain plug. The valve's simple but effective locking system requires two distinct actions to open it and its heavy-duty construction will withstand any engine vibration. Over 2,000,000 Engine Oil Drain Valves have been sold in the past eight years and no problems have been reported.

Re: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

i put my fumoto in last weekend (blah missed the 15% off).... i can assure you... i see absolutely NO way this thing would come open on its own. Even if something hit it , it takes an upward then a sideways motion to open it and there is a fair amount of pressure required to push it sideways.

I think its worth having just to not have to mess with that stupid crush washer every time.

Been using this since my last 2 changes,... definitely worth it for DIYers! Just installed another one last night on my wife's Sequoia... absolutely the very last time I get hot oil all over my hands and the garage floor gets splashed.

If you use the hose bib version , you'll never miss the pan and get hot oil all over your shop floor again either.

I would like to get the hose or "N" type where you can attach the hose. Anybody know if there is enough room for the extra length of this valve w/ hose connector? Does the drain plug on this engine face the ground or to the side (like my other car)?

Re: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

yeah just want to confirm whether we should get the N (nipple) version or the regular, and whether F103 does indeed fit the g35c perfectly.

From what I could tell, the N version shouldn't be used for low clearance cars for fear of stuff possibly hitting it when driving. And the coupe has a pretty low clearance.

Anyone that has installed this thing have any comments? About to order mine.

Thanks.

Re: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

I'm thinking about getting the nipple. It will stick out towards the side, not down, and it's protected by the diffuser cover, so I don't think ground clearance will be an issue. (Note: I do have a sedan, not a coupe.. maybe it's a little different, but I doubt it.) I figure with the nipple version, you can run the hose through the hole in the diffuser, and not have to remove those 14 bolts to get that thing out of the way. Of course, I haven't tried it yet.. the oil filter may still prove to be a challenge with the diffuser in-place.

yeah, i looked at that on my last oil ch.... seemed like it would be difficult (but not impossible) to remove the filter with the cover in place. Also i think the oil from the filter would make a pretty good mess on the inside of the cover.

Re: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

I was going to get the one with the nipple but I was having visions of cruising on the freeway and clipping something that tore the valve off. So I got spooked and just ordered and normal valve. I'm sure the nipple one would be fine, I'm just paranoid.

I've never removed the filter with the cover completely in place, I usually have to remove 3 screws to give myself a little working room. A good way to avoid a mess is to use a plastic bag to unscrew the oil filter. If you do it right you'll avoid getting any oil on yourself or anything else. What oil there is will just pour into the plastic bag.

See? It's the cheap tricks that work the best. I'll have to try the plastic bag trick.

Re: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve - 15% off

I was wondering about the Fram SureDrain system. The SD3 would fit our cars I believe. Looks like it would be more secure and a simpler mechanism. Seems to be shorter, especially compared with the Fumoto nipple valve. Also, at $13 to $15 USD, a bargain as well. Mind you, I don't know how much I trust Fram products.

The thing I don't feel comfortable about the Fumoto is what prevents some idiot from reaching under your car and simply opening your valve?
