Re: SAMCO Update

Uhhh... the radiator hoses will have some pressure running thru them.. I do not recommend zip ties. You should really consider getting worm drive clamps until while you look for alternatives.

Cheers,
Ted

Re: SAMCO Update

The 'worm drive' hose clamps from VW are excellent quality, and have a lining under the band that prevents them from 'chewing up' the hoses. Worth a consideration if you want higher quality than the standard hose clamps from the hardware store.

Re: SAMCO Update

I thought I could get a better bite on the hose with a zip tie than the crappy factory clamps.

Re: SAMCO Update

Has anyone tried the Pi-Thon fittings with the Samco hoses??
I hear they are a real PITA to put on because of the thickness of the hose...Any pics of this combo would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: SAMCO Update

Well.. my hoses did come in last week.. as expected from the UPS estimate. Thanks Ted for following through!

Now to figure out if I can afford the fittings or just go with worm clamps

Re: SAMCO Update

Has anyone tried putting on the entire set with the OEM clamps? Which work / don't work?

Re: SAMCO Update

Do you have to drain your radiator to install these hoses? I dont want to make a mess.

Re: SAMCO Update

i draine the rad. as i was installing the nismo LT thermo ast the same time....

the oem pinch clips will work for the main hose (and sev. others) but the smaller ones need bigger clips, as these are noticably thicker than the oem hoses......

Re: SAMCO Update

the over flow on the OEM is not form fitted either.

I had also cut my over flow (which we were warned about) down about on to two inches. The OEM clamp work on this one, but DANG was it tight!

I also got the OEM clamps to work on the larger radiator hoses, but it was SO TIGHT and a PITA, that I opted to use the worm drive clamps.

Re: SAMCO Update

Be careful using standard worm clamps. They can eat into the hose and chew it up over time. Call around and get some 'silicon-safe' hose clamps. The band has a liner that protects the hoses. I think the ones from VW are like this.
