Spoke with service advisor RE: oil leaks, consumption

Spoke with Lew,

He's always been honest in the past and Im sure he's been honest now.

while we were talking about hyundai's (we both own em) , 335i oil changes, etc. we discussed the oil consumption problem and he states "I've never had to service a car for oil consumption problem, nor have i replaced an engine other then user ripping out the oil pan". I find it really strange we read posts everywhere about the oil consumption and engine replacements. While im not doubting it a few ideas come to mind...

1. my dealer doesnt service a lot of cars
2. there is a very small yet vocal group of people that have encountered this problem.
3. he's just lying

not making any arguments just stating my observations.

This is a documented problem, and it is VERY rare.

Your dealer may not have any knowledge of it, as there have obviously not been any issues with cars from there yet, or there may never be, or the owners don't know the issue is there if it is.

Being a smart service adviser is one thing...not knowing what you don't know is another.

I'm not bashing him...but most advisors only know about documented TSB's and what they personally encounter.

ive had my g for about a month and i too have read these posts and ive been checking my oil WEEKLY. cuz im all worried but so far so good. i think it really only affects people who didnt properly break their engines in. but other than that im not worried anymore, oil level hasnt moved a drop in a month.

Maybe...but I have no issue 'normal break in' never happened here

Since my car had 4 miles on it, I've driven it VERY hard. When I left the dealer I took it about 120MPH and have messed with it ever since.

Maybe I'm lucky, but I think this is another issue. I know if several/many that have driven and broken in the car properly, per them at least, and they have the issue.

Remember 98% of service writers are salesmen/women and know very little about vehicles.
