I've been taught to always change the gaskets whenever you open up any part of the engine or tranny. If not you can have leaks. It's always safe to just replace them and divert any issues that might come.

Yes, there is a recently new gasket design. The new gaskets are much thicker and more compliant than the previous gaskets and do a much better job of sealing. Even on a slightly bent or scratched plenum.
Not that you want a slightly bent or scratched plenum, but it will accomodate it.
The new thicker gaskets are bonded to the spacer so that the spacer itself is not effectively one thick gasket with half the sealing surfaces.
Its also fully reusable.
