For those with reflashed ecus. Sedan auto and maybe early coupe autos

Have you felt a big increase in low rpm throttle response and power?

I ask because my o3 auto is a dog under 3k rpm. I do think it's either engine ecu or tranny ecu related. ie... as it purposely engineered in to limit power below 3k rpm. I was wondering if TS or anyone else was able to engineer that lag out?

As a side note. The 05 sedan loaners I've driven don't seem to have this "lag". Even though the engines are mechanically identical. Leads me to believe it's an electronic nanny. ie.. torque management or whatever.

Yes. The factory was VERY conservative on the early 5AT sedan tune to prevent knock under low RPM load. The TS reflash removes most of the timing retard that is responsible for the sluggishness down there. You will need 92 octane from now on, but do the reflash, you won't regret it. If you have intake/exhaust mods, it would be worth doing a dyno to get your ratios through the RPM's so TS can custom tune it to 13.2 or so.

I did notice better throttle response after TS flash... they address the drive by wire and throttle plate opens fully at WOT. It doesn’t do a thing for the shift lag though. No one has a TCU flash. It's possible that a valve body upgrade would help shifts but it's pricey.

As you are aware, some people report better shift response from ground wires – I have Stillen and can’t say for certain they help. Most people that report improvements are using Gord’s.

If all you want is better throttle response and/or quicker shifts, I don’t think TS ECU flash is worth it for you. If you want to re-map AF to take advantage of any breather mods you have, up your rev limiter and (for whatever reason) disable speed limiter – then it would be worth=while.

I plan to install 3.7 FD so the 7200 rev limiter will come in handy on ¼ mile – won’t need the last shift

OCG is right about the shifts. I have Gordgee's 10 wire grounding gear and it did seem to help a little, but it doesn't fix the shift lag by a long shot. The reflash is a power mod only and it will help the throttle and low RPM sluggishness for sure.

Thanks for the replies. I have some ground wires also but I wasn't referring to the laggy shifts. But the very soft acceleration from 0 to about 3,000 rpm. Once it gets there, it takes off.

I think TS is one a few or the only one that can address teh DBW and throttle plate issues?

Hey Jeff,

I have a '03 auto with Gord's grounding wires (mostly worthless IMO) a TS full reflash, 1/2" spacer, z-tube, pop-charger, and borla. If you ever want to compare. . .let me know.

I think I might have notice the same thing if not something similar. My car really kicks (in terms of acceleration) after it goes into 3rd gear and I hear the growl of the z-tube increase dramatically. I also do still have that 2-->3 lag with my auto tranny whether in full auto or semi-auto.

Drewer, you got an early doggie door? If yes, those are fantastic dyno numbers!

uhhhh. . . . What about doggie doors?

Anywaysy, when I lived in CA the guys at TS gave me a "minor tune" after I put the spacer and borla on. So I guess that's where the dyno #s came from. But, that was way back in 2005. . .around 50-60k miles. I think the engine has worn in nicely. The car felt like it pulled harder 3k and above after the TS guys were done, but with a good tq-brake launch, it feels like it's going pretty good from a launch. (2k and up)

Now that my wife is getting a car, I can begin all the "dis-assembling" of the G and implement my pseudo-master plan.

Oh! The OG sedan with doggy door trunk. . .haha! I remember those.

First:
finish mounting 300/4 and 250/1
build boxes for eDesign 7kv2s (I have 4, but may just use 2)
install Pro-7 coilovers. . .(whenever those darn things get here!)
(maitenance stuff next):
change diff oil (redline)
change tranny fluid (matic J from CA is much cheaper!)
change ps fluid (mobile ATF fluid works)
comp check the engine

The rest of the plan in no particular order:
strup(p) headers jet hot coated,
a big MAYBE on Fast intentions exhaust. . .
get gram light 57S-Pro's, unknown tires yet (MAY powder coat the spokes bronze)
SGP valve body
L-spec reflash for the TS ecu
trans cooler
vortech (powdercoated black)
JWT tapped oil pan spacer
2.87" pulley
zeitronix gauge mounted on top of the gauge cluster with a fiberglass molding to make it look "hidden"
custom intercoolers (so it'll look like a JWT kit. . .stock front)
^^^^if that doesn't happen, a bigger intercooler with a kurumaz bumper or something.

It'll take me a while (1-2 years) since I'll probably still be driving it a bunch. But with the wife-mobile, that'll help out a ton! (So will the fact that the wife is a banker! )
