ecu void warrenty?

Since we are just tampering a the ecu and not actually getting a new different one will the dealership know we have tweeked with it and void our warrenty?

I have another question, if i just send my ecu to techno square and they tweeked it for my stock and i add in exhuast later on do i have to send back the ecu to get it tweeked again or will it automatically learn and i dont have to send it back

Re: ecu void warrenty?

1. they can't tell that it is a modified ecu unless they start looking into variables... they would never do this! (things like the shift points, redlines, speed limiter, etc.)

2. Do all your mods first, then get the ecu programmed for them all... or you'll need to resend and re-pay for it to be done again! The car does learn, but programming the ecu will most def. pull more out of your mods, especially combinations of mods!

A dealership can never "void" your warranty because of an aftermarket mod. They can refuse to provide warranty work if they can prove that the mod you have is the cause of the problem. This is outlined in the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (do a google search to learn more). However, in the real world, the dealership can probably just say that the ECU was the source of the problem, and if you wanted to argue, you'd have to take them to court and prove it wasn't. So basically, that act is all good in writing, but in practice, enforcing it is still much easier said than done.

Re: ecu void warrenty?

Dealerships don't warranty anything, they get reimbursed by the factory for warranty work. Their franchise contract obligates them to inform the factory.........but the factory does the denying!.............why a good working relationship with the service manager is important...........be friendly and deliver cookies and you almost never have a problem.

Obviously warranty work pays fewer hours than the same job contracted by a non warranty owner because the factory gets/sets the hours it will pay for a certain job. Discount based on the high volume of warranty work paid for to the dealer.

Most of the time ecu reprograms cannot summarily cause immediate engine/tranny problems just affect long term after warranty durability.........as the function by changing factory built in safety factors.
