Question Twin Turbo in a 5AT and a 6MT

If a 5AT and a 6MT G35 Coupe both have the exact same options and specifications with Twin Turbo, how much HP loss would the 5AT have and what other losses would the 5AT have?

There is a couple more % loss from the 5AT. With a TT kit they are not far off from each other.

So generally, in specific numbers for HP loss, how much would the AT lose?
and no doubt the MT would win in a 1/4 mile, but to make the AT even with the MT how much added money would u have to spend, and on what would make that happen

Manuals are generally 10-20% range in loss
Autos can be 15-30% range in loss.

I am not too familiar with the auto setup in the G, but...
I would say a valve body upgrade, better torque converter and rear end gears for the auto.

Not necessarily true. A good auto setup will win everytime b/c of consistent shifting. Most drag cars are autos.

The auto SHOULD win.

1 - more traction off the line

2 - Faster shifting providing around .2 faster for the 1/4

The valve body would help to strengthen the trans, and shift even faster. The torque converter would make it more like an MT, thus loosing it's traction off the line advantage, however it would get to boost faster, hence the loss of traction.

Now, with your initial question, I would also assume, that if they had the exact same options, then you would add some weight to the MT to accommodate for the weight of the transmission in the AT, and redo the differential gears to match the MT's, as they are shorter gears. If that is not done, then it would be hard to do this comparison.

I agree with everything said. Plus the auto can brake boost at the line while the manual cannot. With a VB and maybe a torque convertor, it should launch like crazy? Imagine already being in boost when you launch.

There is a greater chance of breaking anything going Turbo as opposed to an SC.

All turbo power comes on a one time, v. the SC which is linear.
