Question Cold engine/oil?

Not sure which section to put this in seeming how i don't know what the problem is but here it goes:

Every time I start my G35 whether its over 100F or -13F the needle for whatever that guage is on the far right (oil temp? engine temp?) is way past C.

The engine will start fine, and the needle gradually makes its way back up to the center after driving for a few minutes.

Any guesses?

Hmm....I am not certain if I understand your question.

The temp gauge on your dashboard is engine coolant temp. So regardless of outside temp, if the car hasnt been running for a while, it will read COLD, and once the engine is started, it will gradually work it way up towards the middle.
