I can't even tell (by sound) when it is on ... Where are you getting that the A/C compressor is loud ???

 

Sorry ... just saw on some boards that the early editions were having problems with bearings and that ininiti was replacing those units. I hope that it has been corrected.

I paid to have mine replaced at the dealership when it got really nasty sounding. They got me for $600 on the part but installed it for free at around 85k miles.

My 03 sedan whines even when the compressor is operating properly. I've seen a TSB that relates to replacing the bracket but never gotten around to checking into it.

 

After warranty, AC can be a significant mainteanace and repair cost but this usually waits until after 120k.

We have found that replacing AC oil [removal of compressor drain and refill]can extend life of compressors but whether this is cost effective is unknown vs just changing compressor JUST BEFORE it fails [requires sensitivity and knowledge].

Waiting until compressor failure oftens leads to total contamination of system requiring full flushing and other clogged parts replacement.
