Question Do you think this will stop engine from burning oil?

I'm not too familiar with the mechanical aspect of a car, but I have a 1994 honda accord that the wife is driving and it start burning oil in the past few weeks (like every 500km, I have to put in 1 liter of oil).

My mechanic told me I may have to rebuild the engine, but it is too costly consider the care only worth 3-4k. I found this article but not sure how legit it is. Can you pro check it out and let me know your thought. Should I try it?

Thank you all!

P.S. I know this is not a honda forum, but since I have a G35 and the burning oil issue occasionally happen to all car. So I hope you guys don't mind.

Thicker oil [30>40>50 weight]will reduce consumption, some!

There are extreme oil thickeners when added to oil increase viscosity to 60>70>80 unfortunately in cold weather this strains the starter and the engine may not crank period.

Burning oil [in an older engine] is usually an owner negilence problem at least until 250,000 miles.

What a car is worth to you has nothing to do with it's resale price.

I have an 18 year old Q45 that is worth maybe $1500 at resale because it has 315,000 miles, yet I am happy to spend $2500-$3,000 per year to maintain and repair because every used car I could buy at any price will need $3,000 to repair to the level of the one I have.

A JDM engine swap 4 cylinder might only run $3,000 and a V6 $3500.

You could try redline oil...... no oil consumption problems.

Try Auto-Rx.

I ran this in my sister's 04 Accord V6 with 107K. It burned a quart every 3K. Now I run 6K intervals and it burns 0.5 quart in that time. I think it's a worthwhile investment considering the costly alternatives. It worked for my friends' Subaru which was burning a quart every 1K. He's around 0.5 every 3K now. During the "cleaning phase" I would run it anywhere from 1800 to 2000 miles instead of the 1500 recommending interval. Also, I overfilled the during the cleaning and rinsing phase by 0.5 quart to make sure the engine oil reached everywhere. I know some people will disagree but that's just what I did. Some people worry about foaming, etc but I don't think 0.5 will hurt anything and I've done it on all 4 of my cars with no ill effects.
