High Compression Piston Kit
Re: High Compression Piston Kit
The stock compression ration on the VQ35 engine is 10.3:1, across all current Infiniti products that use it.
I imagine it's the same for Nissan products, but can't find that particular spec on their website.

Re: High Compression Piston Kit
SGP Racing carries the 11.5:1 Piston Kit, and they're here in Houston.

Re: High Compression Piston Kit
For every point increase in compression, you will gain 10% in power. So figure then to get about 12% more power or about 34 hp from 11.5:1 pistons. When you consider the amount of money it will cost cost to pull the motor, rebuild it and put it back in; you could have easily bought an SC or turbo kit for the same money. In addition, even if you get an intake kit, a plenum, headwork, cams, long tube headers and an exhaust; you still won't even make the power an SC or turbo kit will make bolt-on by itself. The only reason to go through the expense of building a high compression engine is for a racing series that only allows those types of modifications. Top Secret built their high compression car to run on race fuel only.
You would be better off if you are going to get into the motor in investing in a set of rods with low compression pistons to run a lot more boost and make serious power.

Re: High Compression Piston Kit
you bring out a good point Loren04Coupe, but when going FI the right way, you're going to have to "pull the motor, rebuild it and put it back in" anyway. we've seen how boosted VQ35's do on the racing circuit, and though it's a strong motor, anything over 12lbs on stock internals is just suicide for the engine. all motor is fun, and very reliable. but it's also very expensive. but then again, all modding, done the right way, can be very expensive. but for more bang for the book, go FI, jus' please do it the right way. hate to see another car go the way of "brokenness!" (c'mon, that was a joke )
