Help a newbie!!!

Hi all. I have an '04 G35C w/ prem on order for early March. I was hoping all of you mod savvy members could help me with a couple questions:

1) Will any of the performance mods affect the longevity of the engine? I'm pretty sure that a turbo or supercharger will beat up an engine (and be really fast), but not sure about simple air intake/exhaust stuff.

2) Can you let me kow what all the terminology is? I think "FI" is fuel intake, but not sure about "NA". Also, what do the Z-tubes do? And what's a pop-charger?

3) What are the simplest mods I can do to improve HP with NO increase in engine wear? I'm hoping to have this car for at least 100K miles, and if I can have it run smoother/less chance of problems but only have the stock HP, I can live with that, but if a couple simple mods will give me a boost with no engine wear, I'm totally up for it.

Thanks in advance for your help. I looked all over the FAQ for this info with no luck. Once I get up & running on the basic lingo I'll be fine, but as of now I have no clue what you all are talking about. =)

Thanks!

1) Yes. The harder the engine runs, the faster it wears out. The better care you take of it, the longer it will last.

2) FI = Forced Induction (turbo/supercharger). NA = Naturally Aspirated (no turbo, etc.). The Z-tube is just the intake tube from the 350Z. The G35's intake has two resonators on it that make it run quieter. The Z's tube is straight, no resonators, a little louder, and supposedly a little more power. Many people combine this with either the Stillen air box or JWT pop-charger. Both of these are simply air filter replacements for the stock air filter and the box around it. You get a higher-flowing cone filter.

3) Any boost in power is going to lower your engine life. However, stuff like intake/exhaust is going to be negligible.. small HP gains, and a small shortening of the engine life that you won't see, because you'll have sold the car long before then. Even with an FI setup, if done right and not overly aggressive, and you maintain the engine properly, the rest of the car will still probably fall apart around the drivetrain.

Look for posts on the JWT popcharger, Stillen airbox, and z-tube.. there will be pictures in there somewhere.

Re: Help a newbie!!!

I had an intake and exhaust on my last Nissan and it had over 170k (trouble free) when I sold it.
