Oil Consumption Test???

Do you have to pay for the dealer to change the oil?
What's the normal consumption? I've heard 1qt/1000miles and 2qts/2300 miles?
Do they put a special oil pan bolt afterwards so you can't purposely dump oil?

Yes. Anything more than 1qt/1000mi I believe. Yes. You can find a lot more info if you search.

Yup. Mine burnt 2.5 quarts in 3600 miles and that's considered "normal" for a new car. Nissan should be bitch slapped for this oil consumption issue.

So let's say that mine burns 1 qt/1000 miles... should I replace a qt every 1000 miles or would it be ok to replenish around 2500 miles. I do an oil change every 5000 miles because I use synthetic so I don't want to go too long before I put in more oil

I just took my coupe in yesterday for the consumption test and was .6 of a quart low. They told me there looking for at least a quart per 1000, So by the time I finsh the test I should have maybe a quart left. Is this really right? that seems like a-lot of oil to be consumed. I have never had a car swallow that much between oil changes.

Seems like they want your warranty to run out so they don't have to replace the block. IMO They need a recall on this for the MT's.

Also complained about my seat cushion falling on my drivers seat, they told me the rep would be here next week to determine if they will replace. It's so bad that at the seem its starting to tear. They wanted to blame me for it and my size. Well i'm 190lbs and 5'10". I dont think so infiniti. Seems the longer i own the car the more problems I'm getting. So glad I leased.

BTW only have 20,000 miles on the car.

That was a good question. So when this Oil Consumption test is being administered, do we have to pay for the "Premium" Oil change at the Stealership? ($70+) or is it free???

You do not pay for the dealer to replenish the oil when doing OC test. They'll tell you it's normal for the car to consume 1qt per 3750 miles. Nissan would only consider it an issue if it's losing at least 1qt/1K miles. If you're losing 0.6qt per 1K, keep monitoring it by yourself every 1K miles. Most of the time, it gets worse. Mine started losing 1qt/1K miles in March. By August, it was 2qts/1K. All the measurements were done by the dealer tho I check it myself every 500miles. They called me up 2 weeks ago, said I'm 1 of 2 with an engine - long block - enroute. Got here last week and I just dropped off my car today. They'll start work Monday and for now, I'm driving their 07 G Sedan. Exercise patience, that's all I can say.

Will Nissan consider replacing my engine if it consumed 2.5 quarts after 3300miiles (I mentioned 3700 miles before but I double checked my data).
So that's 1qt per 1320 miles.

Would they consider replacing my engine if they did their own OC test and observed a similiar result?

WHAT!!! I blew 1 qt every 1000 miles and that is NOT normal!! I just got my motor replaced through Infiniti.....A motor should not go through a Qt every 1000, if so you would only have 2 qts at change time which is dangerously low! If you notice your low on oil then report it to the dealer and get it recorded, after 3 fails you will be eligible for a new motor. I had 58000 miles and just got my motor......a couple of key points though.......1) You never red line your car,2) You normally shift gears @ 4000 rpm's, and 3) if you ev mods take off anything to do with the intake portion ie, spacers, intakes other the Nismo. As long as you say these key points you have no problems. And 1 other thing they sometimes mark your plug to ensure you don't drain oil, but if you realy want to you could get a bleeding system and suck it out through the dipstick. I worked at Nissan so I know the tricks....LOL

I'm due to take my car in for the 1st oil consumption test this wk or next. I've put on a stillen intake because my dealership said that is the only aftermarket upgrade that won't void my warranty. Now because of this they shouldn't be able to blame me for the burning oil, right?

I would be careful on that......any item that is aftermarket technically voids the factory warranty
if they told you that have the name of that particular guy
just remember those key points above.

if you got that info you should be good to go.
a quick question though, have you been doing regular oil changes through the dealer?
if so they will have all your records for your car. If not have ALL of your oil change records. Infinti/Nissan will void warranty for failure to properly maintain vehicle
