I have a ivory pearl cuope, ive been holding on on mods because of this ECU issue; Is it really necesary? Are there some mods I can perform without the ECU upgrade? like z-tube, pop charger, thermostat and others?

 

When you say "upgrade" do mean reset or replace?

You can do all the mods you mentioned below without doing either (resetting or replacing).

The idea around resetting the ECU is for the learning algorithms to start back to factory specs. Your ride (onboard computer) will see the new installs (mods) and make adjustments around its new hardware/installs and your driving habits (recommened to take the car for a few WOT (Wide Open Throttle) runs about a day after driving the car with a Z-tube mod)

If you have a AT G35S - in my view it is NECESSARY for a serious modder. Our cars a seriously detuned. Aside from raising the rev limiter, they make the throttle plate open ALL the WAY. like it is on the coupe's and z's (which I consider to be THE difference between the AT sedans and the rest - the MT sedans don't seem to suffer from this problem much). They also make your mixture leaner and a lot more optimal, as well as advance timings. I believe that the 03.0 AT sedan makes a lot less power than the 03.5 sedan. It seems as though the 03.0 sedan makes about 205 vs. 03.5's 216 at the wheels. This is supported by several dynoes I have seen for both cars. My (an 03.0) sedan made 15 hp mre at the wheels after the flash, the 03.5's seem to gain around 8 at the wheels, which further support my theory.

Also, I know of at least one case where a stock ECu 03.0 sedan with the popcharger and exhaust make 215 hp at the wheels. This also supports my claim that the 03.0 sedan makes low-mid 200's at the wheels stock.

The only 2 mods that would benefit from a custom program (at least for the AT sedan) are the crawford plenum and RT cats). So, if you are planning to do something about the plenum, get it and then get the ECU for it.

EDIT: I forgot the most impoortant thing: they take out the regression algorithm out of it that is especially present of the AT cars.
