200 miles in 5 months?

I can't imagine you should lose any oil. Just look under the car--is there 1/2 quart of oil there?

Unelss you burned 1/2 quart in driving 200 miles--what year is your G?

BTW: why do you keep a car that you only drive 200 miles in 5 months? That is actually very bad for the car as cars are meant to be driven regularly to keep everything lubed, etc.

Driving too few miles per month is just as bad as too many.
Once oil is exposed to oxygen and ozone and heat the deterioration begins. Why Nissan specs a 3 month and a 6 month ABSOLUTE maximum for replacement.
The warranty will be void if you wait beyond 180 days even if you didn't drive it 1 mile!

See your warranty booklet!

I rarely let it go that long, but I lose almost nothing in 6 months/3k miles.

Um how is the oil exposed to ozone perse? It's inside the engine.

I bet if you sent most oils that just sat for 6 months out for analysis, it would come back fine.

Especially when many of the long life synthetic oils are meant to run for 10,000 mile so more. Which can take a year to do

Question is how many times do you start it? Do you drive it once for 200 miles then sit on it? do you take 20 10 mile trips?

Starting it up alot, might burn more oil because the car is cold and the engine's ecu is in it's open loop cold start program. ie.. rich

In actuality, it should hardly lose ANY oil. I switched to full synthetic after 2000 miles and i change my oil every 5k. I'm now at 51k and in those last 10 oil changes, i've never lost so much as a drop of oil. Oh yeah, i didnt follow the recommended break-in procedure and i drive it like i stole it everyday.

^Starting it up once a week is a bad idea. You're contaminating the oil, the engine and exhaust with excess moisture that can't get burned off from idling a while. Most engine wear also comes at start up so you're doing that unnecessarily.

you drive it 200 miles in 6 months and you are asking about what the oil consumption should be? There is no usable answer for that. You're basically asking how much oil consumption should a parked car have.

Here's an idea: Drive the car you paid for and then ask.
